Protos has the distinction of producing wines in the Ribera de Duero region since 1927, making them the first producer to sell their wines commercially. They authorized the use of their Ribera del Duero brand for the region, and in doing so created what has become one of the most famous names in Spanish viticulture. They built their new state-of-the-art facility in 2008, and the structure has won awards for its design. The fruit for this wine is sourced from two of their oldest vineyards, Burgos and Valladolid, both averaging 35 years of age. It spends 12 months in French and American barrels and shows subtle notes of vanilla, char, and spice, all wrapped in a core of red fruits. Definitive Guide 2 Canadian Distilleries
$31.99
The foremost expert on Canadian whisky, Davin de Kergommeaux, has a new book out with his writing partner Blair Phillips. The Difinitive Guide to Canadian Distilleries: The Portable Expert, delves into the growing world of Distillation in Canada. It features proviles of more than 200 distilleries, tasting notes from more than 125 whiskies and more than 50 classic and modern cocktail recipes.
Author's Note
"Two years ago we embarked on a journey to tell the incredible story of the most exciting and cutting-edge distilleries that are shaping Canada’s industry. The book is finally out today in what has become a weird, unnatural world no one could have predicted. While the days are getting longer and we are beginning to feel spring in the air, almost all non-essential businesses in Canada have closed. We are cheered though that despite adversity, almost all of Canada's distilleries have actively joined the effort to fight the pandemic.
"In writing this book, we have gotten to know many of these very distilleries, and we hope their stories and spirits found in this book might be a welcome distraction. And while we cannot visit these distilleries at the moment, our wish is that this book can give you a virtual distillery tour from coast-to-coast. We hope our tasting notes will guide you to new spirits that cannot be missed, many of which you can buy online, so you can then mix your bounty in distillery-specific cocktail recipes."
El Jolgorio Espadin
$163.99
Producer Description
"El Jolgorio translates to “the revelry”. Jolgorios are small festivals that occur in remote, mountain villages throughout Oaxaca, Mexico. They celebrate births, deaths, weddings and Saint’s days. For centuries, the lifeblood of these celebrations has been traditional mezcal. In 2010, the Cortés family began building a collective of top mezcal distillers from around Oaxaca. As of 2019, El Jolgorio represents sixteen different families, working in ten different regions of Oaxaca, Mexico, each with its own special story. Every bottle is hand-marked with the specific details of each batch, to truly connect the drinker with the family behind the expression.
In 2017, the team behind the brand realized that certain varieties of agave would be extremely limited and they would only be able to make them available once per year (if at all). They began packaging these rare editions in black bottles to set them apart from the other releases.
The artwork on the first 8 releases was created by Alejandro Peña (Espadin, Pechuga, Tobala, Cuixe, Madrecuixe, Tepeztate, Barril and Mexicano). The next 5 labels were created by Asis Cortes (Arroqueno, Jabalin, Coyote, Tobaxiche, and Cenizo) and the Sierrudo artwork was created by Alberto Almánza."
