"The barley harvest for this 2013 vintage was raised on our home shores in 2012 by seven of our Islay farming partners. Hunter Jackson at Cruach, Ian McKerrell at Island farm, Raymond Fletcher at Dunlossit estate, Donald and Andrew Jones at Coull, Mark French at Rockside, Alastair Torrance at Mulindry and Raymond Stewart at Sunderland all undertook the risk of growing in challenging conditions to deliver the barley for this Scotch whisky with unparalleled provenance. This Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2013 single malt has been matured in ex-American and ex-wine casks hailing from the Pessac-Leognan region of France. Heavily peated and malted to 40 PPM, this eight-year-old single malt pays homage to its island home. With redberry fruits, toasted oak notes and hints of coffee and chocolate, it offers a dramatic, smoky finish."

It is made with Arroqueno Agave that is fermented in pine vats and then distilled in clay pots by Mezcalerro Tio Pedro Hernandez Arrellanes. It is bottled in very small batches.

"Tío Pedro Hernandez Arrellanes has been making spirits for more than 50 years in Santa Catarina Minas, where nearly every palenque in town preserves the ancestral tradition of distilling in clay pots crafted in the village of Santa Maria Atzompa. With the help of his nephew Lalo, Tío Pedro produced this batch of Arroqueño at his palenque, La Esperanza. Tío Pedro's batch sizes are often relatively small due to the capacity of his production methods. This particular spirit exudes boldness as soon as it is opened and presents a pleasant honeyed sweetness on the palate."

Castellare di Castellina was born of the union of four estates (Castellare, Caselle, San Niccolò and Le Case) under the direction of owner Paolo Panerai, with the aim of producing wine of the best possible quality. This was in the 1970s when the so-called Renaissance of Italian wine had begun. A renaissance to which Castellare made its own contribution with a combination of tradition and innovation. They were the first to employ the Sangiovese clone now known as Sangioveto and were instrumental in introducing the use of the barrique, following the in-depth research and advice of Emile Peynaud, the most renowned oenologist in living memory. The vineyards occupy 33 hectares on the hillsides of a natural southeast-facing amphitheatre, at an average height of 370 meters above sea level. The vines are between 7 and over 45 years of age and yields per hectare are kept very low to obtain the maximum quality.
