The top of the line expresion from Inchmurrin and the oldest ever official bottling of the spirit. Faintly peated the whisky is matured in American oak and has been bottled at 46% without colouring or chill-filtering. 

Inchmurrin is produced by Loch Lomond Distillers, which is the last distillery to employ a Lomond Still. The Lomond still has plates which can be manipulated to create different styles of spirit.

Distiller's Tasting Note

Body: Concentrated, rich and accessible despite its age.

Nose: A bouquet of citrus and tropical fruits and classic bourbon cask honeysuckle and vanilla.

Palate: A rich and complex mix of lemon, tangerine, melon, pear and guava all dipped in honey.

Finish: The layers of fruit give way to a beautiful vanilla cream and macadamia nut flavour finish. Generous and pure Inchmurrin, a true standout whisky.

My Tasting Note: Nose: fruit flan, shortbread with icing sugar and softly toasted oak; it is so decadent with Crave vanilla cupcake icing, peaches, almond paste and buttery French croissants right out of the oven; there are some green floral and herbal notes Palate: very soft, grassy but buttery with more sweet decadent notes; the oak is firm, thick and oily with roasted coconut chips, vanilla extract and cocoa beans; there are citrus notes to the palate which I didn't pick up on the nose:

My Tasting Note: Nose: at first warm with caramelized fruit and gentle spices; the spices develop into ground cinnamon, coriander, cardamom and anise; the toasted oak develops next followed by some stewed and poached fruits like apple and pear then figs and prunes; as it opens up the fruits come to the fore and dominate all else with peaches, plum and dried apricots; Palate: the fruits waste no time coming out on the palate, though they are immediately accompanied by sweet spices like ginger, cardamom and liquorice; the oak makes its presence felt with some earthy notes, wet leaves and clove; fresh peaches, strawberries and dried apricots also emerge with some stronger notes of coffee bean, candied orange, moist ginger snap and glazed raisin Danishes; Finish: round and chewy with more notes of glazed raisin Danishes, burnt liquorice and espresso bean; some of the stronger sherry notes like wet leather and tobacco start to show later with some nutty-chocolaty notes.

The Distiller's Edition range of Diageo's Classic Malts series takes some of the most iconic whiskies in the brand's portfolio and reracks them into various other cask types for a short period of secondary maturation. We call this 'finishing' in the industry. This Caol Ila DE, for example, takes the flagship Caol Ila 12 year old and moves it over into ex-Moscatel wine barrels for about a year or so. The goal of the DE range is to enhance and compliment the flavours that already exist in the standard bottlings. Whether or not you think these expressions are an improvement on the original or not is up to you, but it's hard to argue with results; the end result is always delicious.

Nose: Wonderfully concentrated and clean, peaty, medicinal, with rich fruit, spicy and fragrant.

Palate: Sweet maltiness strike first, then overwhelmed by peat smoke, intense, crisp flavours, and cinnamon spice.

ATTENTION GRABBING SPICY WOOD

A delicious dram from Blackford village" this whisky was matured 21 years in a Refill Butt before bottling at 57.5%.

Panel's Tasting Note: "The nose gave us hay, grass, wood-sap, sawdust, some delicate floral notes, peppery spice, blackcurrant jam and lots of nuts (macadamia, almond, hazelnut). The palate had toffee, chocolate and treacle, but it was the spicy wood that grabbed our attention – chilli, Victory V's, oak tannins – 'like licking an old cask, without the splinters' someone said. The reduced nose had toffee and lots of scented wood – cedar, pine, grape stems, saunas. The reduced palate seemed sweeter – raisins and chocolate-coated Brazils – but still with the woodiness of long years in cask – chewing on sticks, resinous, spicy; a delicious dram from Blackford village.

JAM MAKING AND HARVESTED FIELDS

This 13 year old Speysider is from a Refill Hogshead cask bottled at 57.6%.

Panel's Tasting Note: "The nose was buttery (buttered toast, croissants, bread and butter pudding) with raisins, baked apples, custard, new-made jam and mixed spice. The unreduced palate was big and full-bodied with lasting heat – the flavours included intense fruit and vanilla, poached pears with soft cinnamon spice and syrup and slightly burnt pastries with currants. Water accentuated the jam tarts (with icing sugar) on the nose and introduced an earthy note. The reduced palate, still rich and substantial, evoked a jam maker's kitchen, fresh sourdough bread and the comforting glow of autumn sunshine on harvested fields. From the first distillery established in Rothes."

Panel's Tasting Note: "This starts as an afternoon tea dram – buttered crumpets with honey, honey on burnt toast – then honey-roast almonds, buttery toffee, salt toffee gradually becomes more of an evening beside a smoky fire. The taste explodes this comfortable image – dirty smoke and hessian after a sweet start; the crumpets still buttery, but now burnt – and water continues the grubby theme – this is after all from Campbeltown (and an excellent example of the town's No. 2 distillery) – with a whiff of struck matches behind pancakes lathered in maple syrup. Add only a little water. Now the texture is smooth, the sherry-notes more apparent; sweet overall, with hessian in the finish."
