Distiller's Tasting Note
Nose: A fruity and nutty combination; cherries, apricot jam, pistachios and toasted oats. Salted caramel and marzipan begin to emerge.
Taste: Sweet and delicious, Scottish tablet, prunes and honey. The classic Campbeltown style develops; sea salt and a light smoke coat the mouth.
Finish: A long and warming finish; honeycomb, orange marmalade and liquorice closely followed by Demerara sugar, almonds, oats and prunes.

DRIFTING INTO A STORM
From the Highland Islands, this 14 year old comes in at 54.3% after maturing in a refill hogshead.
Flavour profile: Oily & coastal.
Outturn: 259 bottles.
Panel's tasting note: "The initial nose instilled an atmosphere of serenity as we gently bobbed along the coastline in our oak canoe, which had been freshly waterproofed with tar. The sun was beating down and we could smell the flowering gorse bushes high on the chalk cliffs beside us. Tucking into our smoked Bavarian cheese sandwiches with plenty of spiced fruit chutney we enjoyed the sounds and smells of the sea, with clean salty air and nearby rock pools. No sooner had we taken a sip a storm arrived and the waves became mammoth breakers as we found ourselves being rocked side to side. Chunks of driftwood banged against the sides of the boat and with a mighty crash lightning struck, charring the apple crumble and scattering ash around us as plumes of thick wood smoke swirled in the wind."

Colour: gold. Nose: ooh this is different. Roots, celeriac, gentian, almonds, lamp oil, beach sand, heather honey, marzipan… To tell you the truth this is not extremely ‘Bunny’, I would have rather said a softer Highland Park. A wonderful softer Highland Park. Mouth: no, really, this either not Bunnahabhain, or it’s been matured or finished in an ex-peater cask, why not one of those Bunnahabhains ‘Moine’? (more about those later, by the way). So an earthy smokiness, wonderful lemons, drops of cough syrup, more heather honey, lemon curd, tobacco, earth, something reminiscent of… floated wood? This is really very good. Finish: rather long, superbly candied and yet fresh, citrusy, delicately smoky… In truth I think this is rather extraordinary. Comments: indeed a surprise. I don’t know what this really is, and I’m not sure I should care, but it’s just totally brilliant and characterful fresh whisky that was born next to the sea (of some sorts). Enigmatic, yet glorious schtuff.

Nose: silky, honeyed, creamy and floral; clotted cream and raspberry jam on a warm scone; whipped cream and vanilla ice cream; creamed honey and strawberry-rhubarb pie.
Palate: creamy, honeyed and floral; still silky and very fruity with a touch of smoke?; big citrusy orang tones with more clotted cream and raspberry jam on a plain scone; loads of floral tones, vanilla and honey; sweet lavender, melons and whipped cream on strawberry rhubarb pie.
Finish: big, creamy, sweet and floral; berry fruits, whipped cream and rhubarb pie.
Comment: this is a lovely big Glentauchers; silky with loads of layers.”
