Distiller's Tasting Note:

Nose: Light and immediate, with citrus backed by rich, creamy toffee and grainy cereals. Fragrant and herbal too, with a perfumed top note joined by more detailed maltiness, with barley sugar and subtle peat.

Palate: Smooth textured at full strength; sweet overall, with fresh acidity and a saltiness unusual in Dailuaine, which develops as a drying, cough-candy note - deepening into dense and spicy dark chocolate-coated ginger.

Finish: There's a peppery tingle in the warming finish, which is oaky and herbal with dry, coating tannins.

Note: Only the fourth new official bottling and the first for six years, this is an outstanding and unusually fragrant example of this robust classic that has an unexpected spicy complexity.

Springbank 12 Year Cask Strength 53.8%

This 2015 release of the ever popular Springbank 12 Year Cask Strength has been bottled at 53.8% after maturing in 70% Sherry Casks and 30% Ex-Bourbon casks. A very limited quantity has come into Alberta. 

Distiller's Tasting Note

Nose: There’s a saltiness similar to Campbeltown Loch fishing creels, a typical Springbank maritime style. Spicy notes are very dominant: cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon sticks and some ground black pepper.

Palate:  Lip licking - thickly buttered gingerbread, sticky toffee pudding and crème brûlée. Cream and butter really coat the mouth in classic Campbeltown style.

Finish:  Dry finish ending with barbecue smoke and chicory sauce.

Flavour profile:  Oily & coastal

Outturn:  275 bottles

Panel's tasting note:  "To nose, we found venison in a red wine and cocoa sauce, maple syrup on pancakes and salted rum caramel.  Then, a furniture workshop was crafting benches for a bodega whilst a mechanic with grimy overalls tucked into a bacon sandwich at the beach.  To taste, cranberries coated in chocolate, melted salted butter on Belgian waffles, and hoisin sauce noodles.  Water brought brown envelopes, wet seaside rocks, Branston pickle, and memories of smoking a shisha pipe (apple tobacco) in a leather armchair.  It was sweet and earthy with papaya, roasted beetroot, salted cashews, mint humbugs and bran cereal.  Conformity is overrated."

Andrew's Tasting Note

Nose: powdered sugar and lemon juice on French crepes and Belgian waffles and whipped topping; honeydew melons, polished church pews and cramel apples.

Palate: soft creamy and very decadent with bags of honey, toasted oak and loads of licorice; as it settles down the waffle and crepe notes reemerge with more whipped topping, powdered sugar and crisp citrus: lemon peel, lemon juice and lemon drops; the melons and other fruits are there but hiding under the polished church pews. 

Finish: long, creamy and coating with fading toasty oak, fruits and spices.

Comment: at 5 years old, cask strength, and nearly $40 less expensive than the distillery 15 year this one is a gem, easily the best Tobermory currently in store.

Andrew' Tasting Note

Nose: big candied lemon and freshly oiled chruch pews; freshly mowed dewy grasses and vanilla/coconut hand cream; white and citrus fruits.

Palate: big, chewy and very creamy, the fruits surge to the fore: blood orange and juicy graefruit, green apple and tangy mangoes; the oak is sugary and toasty with silky vanillans and toasted coconut.

Finish: the finish is lush, coating and sweet with barley sugars, white Hershey's Kisses and more juicy citrus fruits. 

Comment: the is a fine older Glen Garioch with big American oak notes and mouthwatering juicy citrus tones.
