Panel's Tasting Note: "The first nose wave had PVA glue, waxed paper and soor plooms; the second wave a tsunami of liquorice, tar, burnt heather and the string from Arbroath smokies or kabanos. The unreduced palate had sweet toasted lavender, scorched heather, tarry ropes and Imperial Leather, with a fine, long-lasting impact. The reduced nose delivered Fry's orange cream by a scalextric track; one panellist was working on his bicycle – brake pads, inner tubes and the tar-mac road. The reduced palate suggested mint humbugs and orange tic-tacs – fabulously sweet with smoky depths – a dram to trigger vivid dreams. The distillery heats a swimming-pool."
Drinking Tip: "A dram for a day off - perhaps playing with the scalextric track."

The third release in the Private Edition range after Sonnalta and Finealte, Artein is Scots Gaelic for "stone". It is a vatting of 15 and 21 year old whisky extra matured in Super Tuscan casks. 46%/Unchillfiltered
From the distillery: "Artein's recipe is 2/3 hand selected 15Yr old whisky with a special additional 1/3 of 21 year whisky. It started its maturation in ex-bourbon casks before spending a period of extra maturation in Super Tuscan wine casks. On nosing it recalls a sweet and heady bouquet of ripe red berries, honeysuckle and fresh mint. On the palate, sun soaked baked fruits such as ripe apricots, peaches and plums harmonise gracefully with hints of spearmint and cherries in milk chocolate. A whisky of great length, it finishes with high notes of zesty, lemon sherbet and a flourish of creamy cappuccino."

My Tasting Note
Nose: soft fruits enticing me to come in, a Parisian bakery at about 8 AM, canned peaches and apricots; melons: cantaloupe and honey dew with mango and papaya chutney; the nose feels silky and soft, though while the aromas a light they have great depth.
Palate: silky soft with smooth oaky threads and a thick mouth coating body which leave my mouth feeling moisturized with tingling light spice; more melons with ripe peaches and canned fruits; the whisky shows a firm backbone of earthy oak with cloves and black pepper; honeyed and very fruity throughout; vanilla and honey notes from the oak back up against the peppery notes; I also find notes of brown sugar, Demerara and dried cranberries.
Finish: at once coating and drying with some spice and soft vanilla/honey oils; a creaminess develops with the finish showing firm toasted oak.

Panel's Tasting Note: "The nose was entrancing and delightful! Honeycomb, marmalade and cherry liqueur; exotic fruits and flowers; polished mahogany and leather. The palate was lively but never frivolous – brown sugar in espresso coffee dregs and Grand Marnier flavours mingling and tingling in the mouth, “everlasting joy” exclaimed one panellist. On the reduced nose, the orange theme developed even further – candied orange dipped in luxurious chocolate, Jaffa cakes, orange jelly – also a slight whisper of cardamom or something medicinal. The reduced palate had a special, urbane, adult sweetness; toffee and spice and all things nice. The distillery is sometimes flooded by the Lossie."
Drinking Tip: "After dinner - preferably wearing a dinner jacket."
