Central Alberta's Anohka Distillery is getting close to having whisky ready to bottle. In the interim we have been enjoying their This Is Not Whisky Barrel Aged Single Malt. This "Christmas" release was made from heavily peated malt, bottled after 31 months in ex-Bourbon Quarter Cask and ex-Rum, at 49%.

"This special Christmas 2025 release is a peated single malt, offering rich, smoky notes. Most of this spirit started in quarter casks for over 2 years from which about half of the whisky was lost to some very greedy angels. The result was then finished in rum and French oak barrels and delivers warm, festive flavours reminiscent of Christmas around a cozy fire.
"This spirit was double distilled and the most heavily peated spirit we have released to date. The spirit that went into these barrels was named the World's Best New Make & Young Spirit."
