Part of a massive 42 bottle collection of whiskies, wherein each release represents a character from Shakespeare's MacBeth. Neat. Unquestionably a difficult set to build (ahem... sell your house to pay for it all?), but we'll be bringing in some of the cooler releases from the run. This is a Cambus matured in refill hogsheads. Only 650 bottles of this one.
Producer Note: "The First Ghost is one of six ghost distillery whiskies in The Ghosts series. “For The Ghosts, the link to silent, ghost distilleries was obvious and the selection of grain whisky offers a delicacy that reinforces the ethereal qualities of these apparitions. This is shown in the First Ghost to be revealed, a Single Grain Scotch Whisky aged 31 years, distilled at Cambus Distillery.”
Natural colour, non-chill filtered, and bottled at 46.2% abv.
Andrew's Tasting Note
Nose: soft, fruity, and floral, subtle and grain forward; floral potpourri, lemon Pledge, and polished oak; dusty and a little chalky with green Jolly Ranchers.
Palate: light, fresh, fruity, and decadent; silky honey, corn syrup, and gelatin; more lemon, though candied this time, and tart artificial green apple; straying into melons and dried apricot; still dusty tones with chalky Rockets candies; sponge toffee and vanilla cupcakes with vanilla icing.
Finish: light, warming, and fresh with loads of vanilla, corn syrup and soft light fruits.
Comment: it isn't hard to appreciate why they went with this delicate grain as a "ghost"; it is so easy drinking, you'd almost forget you'd taken a sip... save for the fact it is rather tasty; a lovely thirty-something grain!
