"This amber coloured whisky is very rich and concentrated on the note with drak fruits - plums, blackberries - combined with been stock. The darkest chocolate and a slight rubberiness. Very savoury on the palate with more beef stoc along with herbal-amaro type notes and a rich, European oak influence. Long, lingering and complex on the finish."

"After a very long gap, Whisky Sponge Edition No.58b is finally here. It's rather fitting that this will be the very last Sponge bottling we'll release. Forever. (Probably).
This is the second half of the same butt of Ben Nevis 1996 we bottled as Edition No. 58a, only this one has been finished in a 2nd fill sherry butt for just over two years. We bottled it with even slighter reduction this time, at 55%. It tastes like Optimus Prime after an intense workout while wearing a sheep wool cardigan in a cosmic potting shed."

1996 Ben Nevis has a legendary reputation, and it is becoming increasingly scarce. This 25 year old, from a Refill Butt, has been bottled at 53%. It is described as being very distillate driven.

"This is a hyper-distillate driven, almost ideologically 'refill' profile Ben Nevis 1996. You have been warned! However, for those of you who also enjoy this extremely pure, naked and invigorating style of highland malt whisky - you shall find yourself contorted with satisfaction. For this edition, the Sponge interviews his older self about his successes, failures and unrequited vengeances. You'll have to wait until next year, when we bottle the other half of this cask, to find out what his answers are... The first half of this stark-naked refill butt has been bottled reduced to 53% to bring out a slightly fruitier style on the palate. Next year we will likely do the rest at cask strength. If civilisation remains moderately intact. Stay tuned..."
