"Black Tot Day 2022 marks the third iteration of our annual Master Blender’s Reserve, an ever-evolving perpetual blend crafted by our Master Blender, Oliver Chilton.
For this year’s blend, we drew inspiration from historical rums in our collection and the unique flavour profiles they exhibited over half a century ago. These rums, since lost in the rum world, were rich with notes of baked banana, dusty chocolate, mocha milkshakes, honey, tobacco, leather, liquorice, and spice. These flavours were mapped out and became our guide."
Producer's notes
Nose: Melted chocolate nibs and toasted hazelnuts are offset against warm orange and cinnamon sticks with a background of mixed tropical juice and cassis. Blackcurrant and raspberry leaf start to come to the fore with time in the glass.
Palate: Initial flavours of milk chocolate and raisins are complimented with café latte and ripe banana. A touch of aniseed balances against a light hint of tropical fruit and a wonderful rich baked Demerara sugar top to a crème caramel.
Finish: Cinnamon and nutmeg spice along with chilli and cocoa linger for an age.

"Black Tot Historic Solera is a decadent and elegant rum which has been aged in oak barrels that have been seasoned with Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso Sherries, before being further aged through a traditional 3-tier Solera process. Solera’s magic lies in blending rums of various ages. The younger rum interacts with the concentrated essence of older expressions, acquiring richer characteristics with each step. This continuous marriage between these various ageing rums results in a rum showcasing remarkable depth and character."

"This year our Master Blender, Oliver Chilton, has included a higher percentage of Barbadian rums to accentuate the rich tropical fruits in the blend. As always, he has looked to put his own spin on the blend, this year including a 1997 rum from Trinidad’s lost distillery Caroni. Re-imagining the lost art of naval perpetual blending; he began with rum drawn from Master Blender’s Reserve from last year. Casks were then selected from Barbados, Trinidad, Guyana and Jamaica. These four unique country blends were then married together with our perpetual reserve, layered and perfectly balanced, to bring you Master Blender’s Reserve 2024. As always, flagons of original Royal Navy Rum are added to the blend to keep the liquid history alive."

This Guatemalan is a hand selected batch celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Rum Nation as an independent bottler. The rum is made from sugarcane molasses distilled in a column still. The youngest rum in the batch is four years old, and it all was matured in ex-Bourbon barrels resting in warehouses near the Hondo river in Southern Guatemala. The rum was then transferrred to sherry casks (Oloroso and PX) for a further 16 months in Italy before being bottled. 40%
