Winemaker Yves Cuilleron took over his uncle's estate after stints as a mechanic and a soldier in the French army. Now he heads up this family-owned estate in Chavanay, on the right bank of the Rhone River. This powerful white wine is made from Viognier grapes, (the only grape allowed in Condrieu). The Viognier comes from his vineyards just outside of the Condrieu appellation in Chavanay (his Condrieu wines start at about $100 a bottle and go way up from there). It's "an expressive wine with delicious aromas of apricot, citrus and violets. Juicy and rounded on the palate, and a fresh finish," according to the winemaker's notes. Serve with fresh prawns, lobster or a seafood salad.

The arid vineyards of Priorat, about a 90-minute drive from Barcelona, produce some of the most sought-after Spanish red wines. White wines, on the other hand, are a scarcity here but taste this and you'll wonder why. It's a blend of Viognier, Grenache Blanc and Macabeau. Expect notes of passion fruit, ripe pineapple, white peach, citrus, thyme and tart grapefruit. A medium-bodied wine with some beautiful acidity and structure. Perfect with roast chicken.
