Delightfully easy to drink and a wonderful companion with hors d'oeuvres. Alvear has been in the family since 1729 and it is not far from the town of Montilla in the heart of Spain's sherry region, Andalucia. Olive and almond trees line the vineyards and you will get lovely subtle hints of these flavors in the wine, dazzled by notes of sea salt. A classic Fino that pairs beautifully with shellfish.

"This wine comes from the ‘Palomino’ variety, obtained by gentle pressure and subjected to complete fermentation. It’s 15% alcohol volumen obtained by biological aging must be undertaken in full in wineries located in Sanlúcar de Barrameda. Being a product called “pasada en rama” combines two attributes, one of them the freshness of a product twinned with his barrel and a finesse and elegance of its pre-oxidative balance. The very special microclimate of our winery located at the mouth of the Guadalquivir River, provides the development of the ‘velo de flor’ which provides its peculiar organoleptic characteristics. This biological aging continues for a period of three to four years in American oak barrels using the traditional ‘criaderas’ and solera system."

The wine is made from soleras and reserve stocks approaching a century in age, this rich yet elegant dry Oloroso averages over ten years old and displays round, velvety texture and a long finish reminiscent of walnuts and hazelnuts. Aged for 12 years in the bodegas of Jerez, this is rusty gold in colour. Full-bodied, it has great intensity on the nose due to the long ageing. This wine combines softness and great complexity, giving enormous length on the palate. Rich stews and red meats would be a very good food pairing for this wine. It is also an excellent digestif.
