Bachelder Pinot Noir Les Villages Bench

Bachelder Pinot Noir Les Villages Bench

$53.99

The wines of Thomas Bachelder are inspired by his spiritual home – Burgundy – where the grapes he loves (pinot noir, chardonnay, gamay noir) originally evolved, where even the tiniest of vineyards are kept scrupulously apart in the winery, and then put separately, lovingly, obsessively into small, individual bottlings. His goal is to “keep out of the way” and let the best parcels and the most harmonious barrels come forward to liberate and define small patches of Niagara land. It takes a long time to discover terroirs, but the journey has its rewards.

This a blend of single vineyards, put together to show the typical characteristics of the Niagara Bench. It's a gorgeous, red-fruited, crunchy wine with – typical for the 2024s – an impressive brightness of fruit: cherries, raspberries, and even some super fresh, small forest strawberry overtones. Although elegant, this wine is quite rich and lightly astringent and has beautiful ageing potential. A great nose of durable red and black fruit, currently with cloves and spice behind. Lovely and rose-petaled, rich in the mouth. The striking acidity and the glycerine-silkiness surprises! The finish is long, with only slightly perceptible ripe tannins. Delicious, good right now, yet there is a potential for improvement for the next few years. And it will hold deliciously for long after!
