This 1989 vintage teaspooned Balvenie was bottles at 53.6% after 36 years in a First Fill ex-Bourbon cask.

Nose: fruity, floral, and honeyed with nutty malt; I don't know why, but I often get Honey Nut Cheerios (did you know they are made without actual nuts?) with older Balvenies; melon, apricot, and lemon zest; hints of more tropical fruit.
Palate: lush, creamy, and floral, still honeyed with soft fruits and more nutty malt; more melons, apricot, lemon zest and bananas Foster; still with the Honey Nut Cheerios, eaten dry, Mitt Romney style; Nepali style mango rice pudding, rose petals, and a touch of paraffin wax.
Finish: long, coating, and toasty with fading soft fruits, nutty malt, and creamed honey.
Comment: this shouldn't last long, it is a beautiful old malt at a very reasonable price, especially when you consider that you could have 19 of these for the price of one Balvenie 30... not that anyone is buying Balvenie 30 at $8-10k... who in their right mind thought that was a reasonable price?

Nose: Everything you want from mature B. Honey, melons, foam bananas, warehouse depth, gentle oak… amazing.
Taste: Nectar, even at natural cask strength, creamy, complex layers of malt, dunnage and time.
Finish: Sweet and oaky, Cool Whip, tropical fruits, and lasting fudge character."

This is a teaspooned Blended Malt - like originally distilled at Balvenie distillery and then "teaspooned with a small amount of Glenfiddich or Kininvie to ensure it cannot be sold or identified as Balvienie, or called a single malt any longer. It was distilled in 1996 and bottled after 28 years at 46%.
