This 17 year old Old Orkney bottling from Decadent Drinks was created for the sinDicate, a soon to be extinct Calgary whisky club, as an exclusive offering. It reminds Andrew of Highland Park 18 circa the mid-late 2000s, back when it was a standout single malt. 53%

"This devilishly delicious double O.O. dram for one of our friends at The Sindicate Club in Canada. A combination of a 1998 vintage Refill Hogshead which has been 'top dressed' with some Orkney malt from a 1999 vintage First Fill Sherry Butt. These two components were married together in the Refill Hoggie and the resulting heady brew was bottled with a few degrees of reduction at 53% to help bring balance to the final 17 year old malt. The result is a waxy and richly-peated example of Old Orkney, with some savoury, earthy richness from the subtle sherry influence. a whisky to make you go 'O.O.LALA!"

This KWM exclusive 1998 vintage Blair Athol was matured 28 years in a Refill Hogshead cask, before bottling at 56%.
This Blair Athol 28 Year is a partial cask, from which we took 120 bottles. The balance of our cask was married with another (lower ABV) Blair Athol from the same vintage and bottled as a general Decadent Drams release; it is not coming to Canada. But it is worth noting that other Blair Athol was given a 90% score by Le Serge of Whisky Fun fame, so that should give you an idea how good our cask is!
The label design for the Blair Athol is inspired by old Blair Athol OB labels from the 1960s, as Angus feels the liquid to be reminiscent of that era. The moose is a bit of pandering to stereotypes of Canada, and also a riff on a famous Scottish painting, The Monarch of the Glen (1851). Walter has been depicted riding the moose in Black Watch robes, pouring himself a generous dram of the Whisky Sponge Craigellachie 20 Year (from the first bottle he ever featured on), into a nosing bowl, with his one blue eye poking through his sunglasses.

"This is our third official Old Orkney bottling. A multi-vintage, small batch 21 year old Orkney single malt, bottled at natural cask strength with a beautiful and rich sherrywood influence. We married together equal parts Orkney Malt from two different casks. First, a 2003 plain oak refill hogshead, second, a 1999 1st fill ex-bodega sherry butt. The whisky from these two casks was combined and married in a 2nd fill sherry butt for at least six months, before being bottled at natural cask strength. The result is a big, very robust and well-sherried Orkney single malt, with a very rugged, drying and salty sherry profile, underpinned by a gentle thread of Orcadian peat smoke. Old school and hugely characterful Orkney single malt!"

"Very early on in the Decadent Drinks story, Angus had the idea to see if he might be able to buy the historic, but long dormant, Old Orkney brand. AKA: 'Double O'. After all, nothing ventured, nothing gained. The reason for this is that one of the big influences upon Angus' approach to bottling and branding, was the old 'Double O.O.' brand. It was originally the bottling brand of Stromness Distillery on Orkney, which sadly closed in 1928. After that time the brand quickly fell into dormancy and was used only very sporadically in the intervening decades."

"The fourth bottling in our occasional but cherished Old Orkney series is a 1999, 25 year old Orkney malt that has spent the majority of its life in plain refill wood, then the final six years of its maturation in a very, very old 1st fill, ex-bodega, oloroso sherry butt. The result, bottled at natural cask strength, is a richly sherried example of very mature Orkney single malt, that leaves all the wonderful distillery character intact, but decorates it in great detail with some beautifully intricate and old school sherry characteristics. This one is deeply earthy, gamey and rich, with gentle peat smoke, waxes, hessian and nicely savoury, salty notes. A beautiful dram and a wonderfully old school example of sherried Orcadian single malt."
