Andrew's Words from the Rear Label
"Kensington Wine Market’s relationship with Isle of Arran Distillers goes back more than 20 years, to the early 2000s. In that time, we have bottled more single casks from Arran (Lochranza) than we have from any other distillery. Arran has remained one of our favourite whiskies over the last 20 years owing to the quality of its bottlings, and the value they continue to offer to customers. This is our 14th KWM exclusive cask of Arran, and it should be arriving just in time to celebrate our 34th Anniversary. But we dedicate this one to our friends at Isle of Arran, who recently celebrated their 30th Anniversary!”
700 mlAndrew's Tasting Note
Nose: soft, dark, and fruity with loads of chocolate; pain au chocolate (from a proper bakery) right out of the oven to kick things off; doughy and buttery with rich chocolate; dried dark fruits: dates, figs, and cooked raisins; lemon jujubes and chewy malt poke through the sherry; supple leather, damp tobacco, and wood spice.
Palate: rich, dark, and fruity with dark chocolate and nutty sherry tones; more buttery pain au chocolate right out of the oven; once more the fruits range from raisins, dates, and figs to candied citrus (lemon & lime jujubes), but now with apricot and melons too; the more you dive into it, the more tropical the fruits become; nutty oloroso sherry tones, soft leather, tobacco, and more wood spices: cinnamon, nutmeg, and star anise.
Finish: long, coating, and warming with rich sherry notes; as the fruits and chocolate fade, the leather, tobacco, and spices are watching their 6.
Comment: it's been at least two years since our last Arran cask, but this was worth the wait; this is not quite a sherry bomb, but that is all for the better; this is a nuanced sherried malt, balanced enough to let the distillery's beautiful distillate shine through; and were the sherry any stronger, you'd miss the beautiful tropical fruits that emerge after a couple of sips... enjoy!
