"This whisky has been matured in a selection of our 1st Fill Bourbon Barrels and2nd Fill Sherry Hogsheads in very similar proportions to our classic Arran 10 year-old. It has been our privilege to work closely with another dedicated island producer to bring the provenance of our ingredients even closer to home.
"A new small batch of Arran Barley Edition will be released annually with variances depending on the crop type, cask types and volumes available"
700 mlAndrew's Tasting Note
Nose: honeyed, malty, and thick, with a burst of citrus; oily with chewy malt and wet pebble minerality; vanilla custard, clotted cream, and whipped ricotta with honey; juicy lemon, lime zest, and orange oil.
Palate: thick, sweet, and toasty with more chewy malt and bright citrus; the barley takes centre stage, backed up by creamy vanilla, and a hint of sherry; still oily, more chewy malt, and with a nice minerality; lime zest on cream cheese icing, a spritz of fresh squeeze lemon, and candied orange peel; pears, milk chocolate, and decadent spice to round things out: cinnamon sticks and candied ginger.
Finish: long, coating, and oily with more chewy malt, citrus, and spice.
Comment: just enough oak influence to keep it restrained, but not so much as to mask this oilier, more mineral-driven take on Arran; this is to Arran, as Local Barley is to Springbank... well done!
Producer Tasting Note
Nose: Fresh herbs, light citrus. Medium sweetness and vanilla. Aniseed.
Palate: Spicy, ginger and biscuity. Oak forward with vanilla. Citrus notes and a complex oily viscosity amplify the fruit.
Finish: Medium, dry with citrus and ginger/aniseed lingering.
