About The Whisky Trail
"This Whisky Trail range has been inspired by Scotland’s 2003 Land Reform Act: Freedom to Roam. This Act gives everyone the right to access the countryside for recreational and educational purposes. There are 28 single cask bottlings that are a part of this range, and highlight the scenes found while exploring Scotland’s awe-inspiring landscape. Only whiskies that demonstrate the most exceptional characteristics are bottled as part of the Whisky Trail range - each cask as unique as a fingerprint, no two expressions will ever be the same. To ensure each whisky maintains its full flavour and cask character, we never chill-filter or add colour."
Why Highland Cows (Coos)
"Highland Cows are known for their physical attributes and being indigenous to Scotland. They are viewed as symbols of Scotland’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty."
700 mlAndrew's Tasting Note
Nose: nutty, malty, and toasty with a faint whiff of smoke; Nature Valley granola bars, ginger snaps, and dried apricot; baked apple and freshly sliced pear; a touch of brie and blue cheese; chicken al pastor.
Palate: nutty, malty, and toasty with clean ashy smoke; more apple, pear, and dried apricot; heavy on the ginger, with both stem ginger and ginger snaps; cashews, cracked almonds, and shelled peanuts; more chicken al pastor and turkey drippings on stuffing; hickory sticks and nuts & bolts.
Finish: smoky, malty, nutty, and a touch juicy... it has my palate watering in anticipation of more.
Comment: the peat is barely perceptible on the nose, but it builds through the palate and finish; the coolest thing about this whisky is that the oak is only part of the story; although only in it's mid-teens, this is one of the most interesting BenRiachs I have sampled in years!
Producer Tasting Note
Nose: Rich, sweet and savoury, large wicker basket filled with fruit in a stone-walled house, with cold chimney smoke in the background.
Palate: Autumn fruit stewing in a copper pot on a chimney fire. Ginger tea, duck à l’orange with Chinese 5 spice.
Finish: Spicy and sweet with notes of warming mulled wine by the fire.
