This 12 year old Glenmorangie expression was initially matured for at least 10 years in ex-Bourbon casks before finishing in ex-Calvados casks. It has been bottled at 46%.

"The Glenmorangie Calvados Cask Finish is the fifth release in the our Barrel Select series of small-batch single malts, which explores the flavours that arise from different cask finishes. Entwining scents of jasmine with baked apples and pears, this rare 12-year-old bottling offers new mellow depths to Glenmorangie’s signature fruity tones.
"Inspired by his fascination with the soft orchard notes of the French brandy Calvados, award-winning Master Distiller Dr. Bill Lumsden transferred whisky that had been aged for more than 10 years into ex-Calvados casks for extra maturation. The result is a soft and delectably rich whisky that unites the mellow notes of baked apples and pears with subtle notes of jasmine and vanilla."

Aroma: Notes of baked apples, pears, vanilla, and almond. With water, fragrant floral notes of narcissus, jasmine, and heather honey emerge. And soon after, the aroma of sweet baking pastries is found.
Taste: Oily and spicy, leading into a burst of rich sweet flavors such as baked pears, toffee apple, almond marzipan, star anise, and chocolate praline.
Finish: Long, lingering, and slightly cooling in nature.

The new Nectar' D'Or has some age on it... 16 years, and the cask makeup has been tweaked too. After maturing 14 years in ex-Bourbon, the whisky is now finished for a further two in a marriage of four different sweet wine cask types: Sauternes, Monbazillac, Moscatel, and Tokaji. 46%

"For extra depth and creaminess, silky Glenmorangie aged for 14 years in bourbon casks was selected. The whisky was then finished for two more years in a new combination of sweet white wine casks.
"Sauternes and Monbazillac casks from France bring sumptuous notes of pastry, brioche, meringue and baked apples. Moscatel casks from Spain offer sweet, syrupy dessert-like notes. And Tokaji casks from Hungary, add white chocolate, almond and honeycomb flavours to their creation."

The Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban recently evolved from a 12 year old, into a 14 Year. Matured initially in ex-Bourbon, the wine is finished in Port casks before bottling at 46%. This whisky is replete with notes of chocolate and orange, which is derived from the finishing in port casks.
Producer Tasting Note
Aroma: Dark mint chocolate and Seville oranges mingle with sandalwood and walnut, with a spicy finish of pepper and nutmeg.
Taste: Mint chocolate and walnuts envelop the palate, laying the foundations for rose, Turkish delight and sweet Seville oranges.
Finish: Long-lasting, silky aftertaste leaving dark chocolate mints and traces of orange.
Andrew's Tasting Note - on the 12 Year
Nose: dried cherry and cranberry leap out of the glass; some musty old wood with dark chocolate, prune juice and cooked dates.
Palate: big, nutty and wood; more dark chocolate with some firm old leather and sweet Cuban tobacco; the musty old wood is still there with some licorice nibs and decadent spice.
Finish: medium-long and warming; the spicy oak holds on with a touch of chilli heat.
Comment: I forgot how interesting this whisky is; I am not generally a fan of Port matured or finished whiskies, but this one is good!

And, like stepping into a chocolate-minty-orange unknown, the journey is as delicious as the destination."

The whisky begins with a base of the same spirit that goes into Glenmorangie Original, 10 year old whisky matured exclusively in American oak Ex-Bourbon casks. The whisky is then finished for 2 years in Oloroso Sherry casks from Jerez, Spain.
From the Distillery: Lasanta is Gaelic for warmth and passion, a reminder not just of the Spanish provenance of these Oloroso sherry butts, but also a reflection of this expressions lusciously soft texture and deep, enticingly sweet aroma.Non chill-filtered for additional aroma and mouthfeel."

Aroma: Warm spices mix with smooth chocolate covered raisins, honeycomb and caramel toffee.
Taste: Deliciously sweet sherry flavoured sultanas, orange segments, walnuts and butterscotch combine to create complex warm spices.
Finish: Long and satisfying finish with spiced orange and chocolate covered hazelnuts.
