Castro Ventosa Valtuille Mencia
$35.99
As early as 1752, the ancestors of the Pérez family were vine growers in Valtuille, making wine from some of the plots that today form part of the winery. Tradition, experience and respect for the terroir and for the work of their ancestors define the character of their work, mark the profile of their wines and the life of nine generations of the family linked to the family business. Today Raul Perez is recognized as one of Spain's greatest winemakers.
El Castro de Valtuille Mencía Joven is a wine from El Bierzo, made mostly from Valtuille de Abajo grapes, from old vineyards, with a mixture of grapes from all the places in the town. It's a mixture of around 352 mini plots, located in 17 different places.
Hansel Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021
$74.99
While the Estate Pinot Noir from Walter Hansel utilizes barrels of Pinot from a variety of Hansel-owned vineyards, the heart and soul (and a majority of the Pinot) is usually harvested by hand from the legendary Meadows vineyard. The result is a Pinot Noir that is very approachable yet complex even when young but can also reward you if cellared.
Moss Wood Cabernet 2021
$127.99
Established in 1969, Moss Wood is an important, founding estate of the Margaret River wine region in the northern sub–region of Wilyabrup, Western Australia. Clare & Keith Mugford, as winemakers, viticulturalists & proprietors, have been making wine & tending the vineyard at Moss Wood since 1984 & 1979, respectively. Their exacting viticulture ensures the production of high-quality fruit, and they have created a stable of fine wines distinguished by their consistency over each vintage, along with their ability to age superbly.
They looked to the great wines of Bordeaux for inspiration and carefully examined the factors that have made Bordeaux the benchmark for Cabernet Sauvignon.
As they were making wine in Margaret River inspired by those of the Medoc, they felt it was important to consider the Bordeaux environment as opposed to Margaret River’s individualistic climate and terroir. Wine writer Jancis Robinson has called them the Chateau Latour of Australia, and, we might add, for a fraction of what Latour costs.
The 2021 Vintage of Moss Wood's flagship Cabernet Sauvignon contains 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. There is a core of red and dark fruits, with black currant, cherry, blueberry, and mulberry. They sit over a medium to full body, with bright acidity and soft, well-integrated, svelte, almost chocolate-like tannin. The wine is long and finishes with cedar and toasty oak, with perhaps a touch of star anise. Decanting (or 10 years in the cellar) is highly recommended.
Peter Lauer Feils No 13 GG 2023
$96.99
This wine estate in Ayl has among the best steep slopes on the Saar. In addition to the famous Ayler Kupp, they cultivate two other important vineyards in the Mosel region: the Saar Feilser directly above the river and the steeply sloping vineyard Schonfels, a little farther upstream. Recently, we also replanted and recultivated the now forgotten Lambertskirch, just a stone’s throw from Schonfels.
Their white wines have been among the best in the Saar for many years. Since 2013, they have been members of the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates). Their wines from VDP.GROSSEN LAGEN® in the dry and off-dry styles are particularly special. They also produce exceptional sparkling wines, which we carry as well.
Peter Lauer Ayler No 25
$56.99
A classic, vibrant and exquiste Riseling from Peter Lauer. Comapred to his neighbours (Egon muller and the likes), Lauer focuses more on those dry and off-dry styles, permitting a style of riesling that is bright, electric and mineral driven. This wine is no different, and I would highly recommend. It is complex, elegant and explosive. Perfect to pair with dishes that are just as expressive.
Oddero Barolo 2021
$119.99
Oddero's roots go back to the end of the 18th century when their ancestors began to make wine under their own name. The wine cellars, located in the frazione Santa Maria of La Morra, are situated on a natural terrace and overlook the hills of the Langhe. Immersed in a sea of beautifully tended vineyards, their winery cultivates 35 hectares in the best crus of the Langhe and Asti territories to make some of Piedmont’s most renowned wines: Barolo, Barbaresco, Langhe nebbiolo, Dolcetto d’Alba, Barbera d’Alba, Barbera d’Asti, and Moscato. Traditional knowledge and modern production bring the best of both worlds to these wines.
Mushroom Risotto, wild boar or Piave Cheese will be great to pair with this wine. You can even pair this Barolo with a hearty Lasagna, an elegant Carbonara or even your favourite pizza!
Aubuisieres Cuvee de Silex
$27.99
Formerly known as Domaine Bernard Fouquet, until Bernard retired in 2021, handing the reins to Charles Lesaffre. Charles is the grandson of Gérald Bruley des Varannes, the man from whom Bernard's father André acquired his first vineyards, thereby bringing the story of the Domaine full circle. An avid practitioner of viticulture and oenology, Charles joined Bernard as an associate in 2019. Two years into his tenure, Charles has emphasized organic and biodynamic practices. Charles has continued, as Bernard before him, to capture the unique Vouvray mineral tones, along with the wonderfully balanced expression of fruit of the Chenin Blanc grape, in his wines.
The Cuvee de Silex from Domaines des Aubuisieres is made from fifty year--old Chenin Blanc vines in the Loire Valley. Soils for 'Cuvée Silex' are exclusively flint stone (silex in French means flint), imparting a smoky, mineral essence to the wine. Look for a bouquet of pear, green apple, quince, and melon that develops notes of mineral and honey. The wine is ever so slightly off-dry, which lends it a juicy freshness. Expressive and exceptionally well balanced on the palate with lots of lemon and a trace of anise. Great with turkey, spicy Asian dishes and salmon.
Angove Shiraz Mourvedre Grenache
$19.99
Angove has a hit with this blend of shiraz, mourvedre and grenache that tastes decidedly Rhone -like, with aromas of ripe raspberry, dark cherry and spiced plum are layered with hints of black pepper, dried herbs and a subtle earthy complexity. The palate is medium to full-bodied, showcasing the plush fruit of Grenache, the structural backbone of Shiraz, and the savoury depth of Mourvèdre. Silky tannins and a gentle oak influence frame a lingering finish of red fruits, spice and a touch of cocoa. Great Value!
Terredora Fiano di Avellino DOCG
$41.99
This revered winery's story begins with a tale of two brothers - Walter and Antonio Mastroberardino -who parted ways, with Antonio acquiring the winery and Walter acquiring the vineyards (renamed as Terredora). The Terredora di Paolo estate is located on the hills of Irpinia, surrounding the valleys of the Sabato and Calore rivers. With about 180 hectares of vineyards, they rank among the most prestigious producers in Southern Italy. The South of Italy is one of the most interesting wine areas in the country, and Campania, and especially the Irpinia region, produces wines from native grape varieties such as aglianico, fiano, greco, piedirosso and falanghina, all of which are brimming with personality. Aglianico has been called the Barolo of the south for its power and its ability to age for many years. Today it is Walter's daughter, Daniela Mastroberardino, who oversees the winemaking duties and serves as the president of the Le Donne del Vino association- an organization supporting women in the wine industry in Italy.
