This wine is made by Château De La Grave, a winery with a history dating back to the 15th century. In the 19th century, the small hamlet of La Grave originally consisted of the main house and various farm buildings, land, vines, meadows and woods, which would become Chateau de la Grave in 1868. Mr. Constant Bassereau acquired the property in 1910 and each generation of the family has worked hard to improve the quality of its wines to make them what they are today, a Bordeaux chateau whose wines offer a winning combination of quality and value. As of 2020, the vineyards were certified organic and the winery supports biodiversity and respect for the environment.

Davide Carlone is one of the most dynamic winegrowers in Piedmont, and he has achieved a cult-like following over the years. Boca may not be a household name as it's tiny but it is well worth exploring. His focus is Nebbiolo, but he cultivates most of the local grape varieties including Erbaluce, Croatia, and Vespolina. Carlone is a traditionalist in the cellar, relying on large oak botti and extended aging for his top wines. The hills of Boca deliver distinctive expressions of these grapes, thanks to their volcanic soils, and Carlone’s hands-off approach lets those unique characteristics shine.

An ode to Madame Cliquot, one of the creators of sparkling wines. Veuve Cliquot is one of the biggest names coming from Champagne, creating wines that are consistent every year. Their Rose is 44 to 48% Pinot Noir, 13 to 18% Meunier, 25 to 29% of Chardonnay, and is created from a selection of grapes sourced from 50-70 crus. This wine screams strawberries, with other notes of ripe red berries, biscuit and pastry.

As a farmer, Luigi Einaudi displayed intelligence and far-sightedness. When he used rooted grafts on American rootstock to combat phylloxera, he brought modern viticulture to the Langhe. He decided in 1915 to create a cellar to produce and bottle wine, rather than just selling the grapes. He at once began to buy vineyards that enjoyed a particular position, exposure and soil quality in order to produce the best wines. Today, it is Matteo Sardagna Einaudi, Paola’s son, who is at the helm of the company, and they produce some of most exsquisite examples of Barolo, Barbaresco, and Dolcetto in Piedmont.

Tucked behind the Serra Grossa, at the top of the Alrorins-Alcusses valley, sits the idyllic site of Celler del Roure, an estate developed by Pablo Calatuyud and his father to shine a light on a more ancient and authentic style of Valencian, away from the bulk production the area was becoming more recognized for. His intention to rehabilitate long-forgotten grapes such as Mando, Arcos and Verdil was solidified with the discovery of a 500-year-old cellar on the mountainside property, with subterranean clay amphoras ‘tinajas’ in near-perfect condition. The owners describe the affinity of ancient grapes and amphora as nothing short of magical. Looking across the landscape from the winery, you can’t but notice the higher exposed chalky white soils akin to albariza, whilst closer to the winery there is more sand both of which add delicacy and freshness to the wines. The altitude and the cooling east winds help maintain the acidity and freshness of the grapes, providing a remarkable location for vine cultivation in this warm Mediterranean region. The site also has deep historical significance, as archeologists have discovered evidence of a 4th-century civilization on the site of Bastide de les Alcusses.
