"In 2008, Chichibu Distillery was opened by founder, Ichiro Akuto, and it was the first new distillery to open in Japan in 3 decades. Ichiro’s grandfather owned the famed Hanyu Distillery, which closed in 2000. Ichiro then took possession of all the whisky stocks left behind in the Hanyu distillery and used them in the blending production of the world famous Ichiro’s Malt Card Series. Chichibu whiskies are much in demand globally due to limited production and award winning quality. Ichiro Akuto is revered globally as a master craft distiller, producing some of Japan’s best whiskies today. A marriage of single malts from Chichibu and Hanyu distilleries. This expression marries sweetness and firmness. Malts from Chichibu's Mizunara oak and malts from Hanyu's Sherry cask Hogshead barrels impart these special characteristics to this limited expression whisky."

Composed of Japanese single malts, the undisclosed malts are most likely Chichibu and Hanyu distilleries single malts of various ages. After the blending of the two distilleries single malts, they are aged in Japan's famous and highly regarded Japanese Mizunara oak. This oak ageing in evident in the flavour and aroma profiles of this whisky."

Donald Ziraldo and Karl Kaiser founded Inniskillin in Niagara-on-the-Lake in 1975 and later expanded their reach to the Okanagan Valley, too. Their 1989 Inniskillin Icewine won the Grand Prix d'Honneur at Vinexpo in Bordeaux. Icewine is made by leaving grapes on the vine well into the winter months, until they are frozen to -8 C. The frozen grapes are then pressed in the extreme cold, so cold that only a few drops of sweet concentrated juice are obtained from each bunch. This Vidal is deep gold in color with an enticing nose of lychee nuts. The palate is packed with flavors of sweet tropical fruits, peaches and mango. It is intensely sweet with a clean, dry finish. Serve by itself as a dessert, or pair with creme brulee, flan or pound cake. A wonderful gift!

More precisely it is our 3rd from the early 2000s, and it is yet another Brora-esque twenty-somthing Benromach with creamy smoke and tropical fruits. Matured in a First Fill ex-Bourbon Barrel for 21 years before bottling at 57.9%. Only 179 bottles!

"With XO Cognac and Armagnac allowing a minimum spirit age of ONLY a decade, and even XXO Cognac needing to be a paltry 14 years old, the prices on 'high-end' Eau de Vie can seem a bit silly. With that in mind, we are absolutely obliterating those age statements with the lineup for this virtual tasting. There is only one spirit in this lineup that was distilled in this millennium. The other six bottles in this incredible range feature spirit going back to at least 1988, with most of it being distilled in the 1960s and 1970s! If you are going to pay to taste old Eau de Vie, you should be tasting actual old Eau de Vie, right? We've got you!"
