One of a pair of KWM Arran single casks, selected by and bottled exclusively for the shop. This 22 year old was distilled February 2nd, 1996, filled into a Sherry Hogshead and bottled on April 9th, 2018, at 51.3%. This is the oldest bottling of Arran whisky to come to Canada! 342 bottles.
Andrew's Tasting Note
Nose: molten dark chocolate, new Italian leather shoes, brandy soaked cherries and old Cognac; it reminds me of an Old Fashioned or classic Sazerac cocktail; bags of orange: freshly peeled, candied and dried peels; classic Christmas cake tones and mince meat pie from the oven.
Palate: damn...; right off the bat this whisky oozes class and sophistication; this is what an old sherried whisky should be; dark and candied fruits, notes of chocolate, warm maple syrup, Christmas cake, fruity tobacco, refined leather and warming spices; the sherry tones are rich but balanced; lots of fruit, decadent and spice.
Finish: long, fruity, sherried and rich; more chocolate, leather, tobacco, Christmas cake, spices, maple syrup and more... all in fine balance.
Comment: wow, simply wow; this is a phenomenal single cask; this is a classic but balanced big sherry bomb; my only regret is that we have just a Hogshead here, and not a much larger Butt!
