New for 2018, and in a new bespoke bottle, this 17 year old Canadian whisky has been bottled at 50% abv. The whisky is produced at Highwood Distillery in High River, Alberta, primarily for export to Asia. It is 100% corn whisky!
Andrew's Tasting Note
Nose: toasty, floral and honeyed; Marcona almonds, dried cherry and cranberry, baked apple and cinnamon; lemon and candied corn.
Palate: sweet, corn forward and spicy; floral, ripe fruits, more baked apple, dried cherry and cranberry; toasted oak, more Marcona almonds, olive oils; jujubes and vanilla bean.
Finish: long, toasty and sweet; floral with fading fruits and jujubes.
Comment: classic Canadian whisky, corn forward, very drinkable, juicy and layered; not overly complex, but at this proof it is a fine cocktail whisky!

A curious new Canadian whisky made from a Corn/Rye Whisky sourced from the Potters Distillery in Kelowna. It was matured 17 years in ex-Bourbon and finished in 15 months in Jerez Brandy barrels from Osborne (Andalusia, Spain). Bottled at 54.5%, the spirit was made from a mashbill of 91.5% corn and 8.5% rye.

Big changes going on at Shelter Point. New owners, new management, new vision. While we're a little sad about the changing of the guard, we're also keen to see what comes next for this little island distillery. An infusion of new blood could mean very exciting times ahead.
But in the meantime, let's celebrate a coming of age! 10-year-old single malt that came from the first year of production. We've been patiently waiting for this moment. Well... some of us not so patiently, actually. Hopefully, this 10-year-old becomes the distillery's new flagship expression. Fingers crossed.
