Batch 1 of Roper's Hold 20-Year-Old has been released by Bryce Parsons and True Wild Distillery. For this batch, the whisky was originally produced at one of the larger distilleries in Southern Alberta. The grain makeup is 90%+ Rye and the rest malted barley - something that the mystery distillery is not typically known for. The whisky has been finished in wine casks sourced from the Okanagan Valley.

"Our newest (or should we say oldest?) edition of our beloved Roper’s Hold Whisky has been freshly bottled and is ready for you! This beautiful 20 Year Aged Canadian Rye Whisky was originally distilled right here in Alberta, but was later found in New York, and our team was committed to bringing this one-of-a-kind whisky back home. Once these forgotten barrels returned home to Canada, we finished them in beautiful Okanagan wine and custom American oak barrels to give the whisky its distinct colour and flavour profile."

Nose: Butterscotch and breakfast oatmeal up front, with a hint of a lactic note. Bright and fresh flesh fruits. Peach, apples and a hint of some melon notes too.
Palate: Welch's fruit chews, a hint of cinnamon and wisps of faint licorice. Both red and black. Also old grain, leather and tobacco leaf, more baking spice. A homemade Apple pie filling. Sarsaparilla spices.
Finish: Crisp gala apples in a warm pan. Dr Pepper and soft cedar notes dusted with cinnamon and freshly shaved nutmeg.

The first core release from the Maligne Range, Tekarra is an unapologetically Canadian whisky, made partially from an Imperial Porter mashbill with Demerara sugar, matured in First Fill ex-Bourbon and Virgin American Oak casks before bottling at 48%.
The whisky was distilled at Last Best Brewing & Distilling in Calgary, though in time the brand's spiritual home will be the Maligne Distillery under construction in Jasper.

"Named after Mount Tekarra in Jasper National Park, this is a whisky of unique depth, with a bold 48% abv. It features a unique grain bill inspired by Imperial Porter (a beer style) that uses a masterful selection of malts - superior pale, crystal, dark crystal, chocolate, and midnight wheat. Rooted in the Canadian one-eleventh rule, Tekarra artfully combines malted barley and the unique addition of Demerara, creating a cascade of flavours."

Amber Mountain is the third release so far from the Maligne Range Series. Like the Tekarra and Excelsior that preceded it, Amber Mountain also takes its name from a mountain in the Maligne Range, which is in Jasper National Park. The whisky is a blend of malted barley distilled at Calgary's Last Best and mature 100% unmalted rye whisky from an undisclosed Alberta Distillery. Hmm... Batch 01 was bottled on July 21st, 2024 and bottled at 46%.
