For more than 1000 years San Leornardo was a monastery, but for over three centuries now San Leonardo has served as the residence of the Marchesi Guerrieri Gonzaga family, its proud custodians. Today, the San Leonardo estate is a garden of vineyards and roses, protected by the massive barrier of the Alps, which blunt the force of the cold northern winds. The valley floor benefits from, and in turn releases, warmth from nearby Lake Garda. The tenuta remains an antique world, in which winemaking practices, still uncompromisingly artisanal, yield wines that are true gems of Italy’s wine tradition, marked by freshness, harmony, and an innate elegance.

This edition from the legendary Tenuta San Leonardo estate in Trentino is presented with an artist-signed label. The special release of 999 bottles features the surreal artwork of Simone Berti. From a cool vintage, the 2018 San Leonardo is incredibly fine and beautiful with a filigree of aromas that recalls wild blackberry, tobacco, pressed rosemary, cherry tartlet and orange marmalade. The wine's elegance is extraordinary, and the mouthfeel is very fine and precise. This classic vintage will certainly appeal to San Leonardo purists. I recommend giving it a long runway to age.

Vette is named for the imposing peaks that rise above its Sauvignon Blanc vineyard, and it's the true height of refreshing crispness and earthy minerality. Made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc it sees 12 hours of low-temperature maceration on the skins, followed by gentle pressing and fermentation for 20 days. It spends five months sur lie solely in stainless steel. The previous vintage sold out quickly and was a staff favourite, always a good sign. It walks the line stylistically between Sancerre and New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc flavour profiles, the best of both worlds.

The Terre di San Leonardo is the IGT younger sibling of the iconic San Leonardo. Like its older sibling, it is a Bordeaux-style blend from an amazing Italian producer. The 2019 vintage consists of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 10% Carmenère with 4/5ths being matured in concrete vats and the remaining 1/5 in French oak barrels. This big red will pair nicely with big red meat dishes and hard cheese.
