Part of a massive 42 bottle collection of whiskies, wherein each release represents a character from Shakespeare's MacBeth.
Linkwood is a 'top dressing' malt. Roughly translated, that means 'hella good'. Actually, it means that blenders covet this rich and vibrant malt for their blends because it has an incredible fruity, and sometimes floral, profile. This 31-year-old was matured in American Oak Refill Bourbon Barrels. 89.79pts on Whiskybase
Producer Note: “Linkwood is an all-time favourite distillery and it was a thrill to find a 31 year old expression of this Speyside Single Malt Scotch whisky, distilled in 1991, that worked so perfectly for Lady Macduff – although I would probably have had to rewrite Macbeth if there wasn’t a place for this amazing whisky.”
Natural colour, non-chill filtered, and bottled at 48.2% abv.
Andrew's Tasting Note
Nose: floral, toasty, and fruity; waxy Starburst fruit candies, canned peaches, and Jelly Bellies; fruits morph into melons, juicy citrus, and apricot jam; classic pillowy Linkwood floral tones; nutty marcona almonds; marshmallow and whipped cream.
Palate: sweet, fruity, and floral, with a waxy oiliness; more Starburts, honeydew, canteloupe, and apricots; more marcona almonds, toasted oak, and linseed oil; dewy fresh cut flowers right out of a humid warehouse; toasted marshmallow and tart whipped cream.
Finish: floral, warming, and toasty with a waxy backbone; fading fruits, marshmallow, and nutty tones.
Comment: light, delicate, and elegant; we don't often see older Linkwoods unless they are in sherry... and this is something altogether different; this is very true to the distillery's house style, but with loads of maturity to back it up; lovely!
