The first core release from the Maligne Range, Tekarra is an unapologetically Canadian whisky, made from an Imperial Porter mashbill with Demerara sugar, matured in First Fill ex-Bourbon and Virgin American Oak casks before bottling at 48%.
The whisky was distilled at Last Best Brewing & Distilling in Calgary, though in time the brand's spiritual home will be the Maligne Distillery under construction in Jasper.

"Named after Mount Tekarra in Jasper National Park, this is a whisky of unique depth, with a bold 48% abv. It features a unique grain bill inspired by Imperial Porter (a beer style) that uses a masterful selection of malts - superior pale, crystal, dark crystal, chocolate, and midnight wheat. Rooted in the Canadian one-eleventh rule, Tekarra artfully combines malted barley and the unique addition of Demerara, creating a cascade of flavours."

Nose: dark, fruity, and nutty; Tootsie Rolls, Eatmore, and Demerara sugar; candied nuts and Caramilk; sweet tea, Aussie licorice, and breakfast cereal.
Palate: dark, rich, and fruity with spices and dark sugars; more Tootsie Rolls, Eatmore, and Demerara Sugar; molasses, treacle, and Aussie licorice; more sweet tea and breakfast cereal too; cinnamon brioche and nut-crusted donuts.
Finish: long, coating, decadent, and spicy with more molasses-based sweets.
Comment: I love how unique the concept is here, some purists might scoff at the concept, but they would be missing out on something very unique, and I might add rather excellent!

This single-cask Canadian whisky was made from a 50/50 mash of peated malt and malted wheat, matured 8 years in a First Fill ex-Bourbon cask. The first 'Excelsior' release from the Maligne Range is a collaboration with Kensington Wine Market, bottled at 48%.
7 years ago Andrew made this whisky with Bryce Parsons at Last Best Brewing in Calgary. The whisky was filled into an ex-Bourbon Barrel, which had previously matured a Jefferson's Reserve Bourbon KWM exclusive bottling. When they made the whisky, they had no idea when, or under what brand it would be bottled.
Way back in October of 2016, Kensington Wine Market had a once used Jefferson's Reserve Bourbon Barrel, from one of our store-exclusive bottlings. It had a lot of life left in it, so we set about finding something to do with it. Working with Bryce from Last Best Brewing & Distilling, it was decided we should fill the cask with spirit. A little more than 8 years later, that whisky is spirit. Limit 1 Per Customer!

From Grain Henge/Troubled Monk in Red Deer Alberta, this single malt whisky release is bottled at an impressive 56.6%. The whisky is made form a mash of 2 Row, Brown Malt, Chocolate Malt, and Crystal Malt. The spirit was aged for four and a half years in a combination of #3 and #4 char Virgin American Oak casks.
