Elixir Distillers can't tell you this is Laphroaig, rather that it is just from an undisclosed Islay distillery... but we are under no such restrictions! This is an excellent dram, at a very fair price for such an old Islay malt!
Producer Note: "This is a marriage of whiskies from 1990 to 1991, matured in just three casks, two American oak refill barrels and a refill sherry butt, which yielded a total of 1241 bottles. This is a wonderfully old-fashioned 30 year old Islay single malt - in the best sense of the word – from an undisclosed distillery. Aged in a combination of sherry and bourbon casks to create a seductive smoky whisky with spice and tropical hints." 89.83pts Whiskybase
Natural colour, non-chill filtered, and bottled at 47.5% abv.

Nose: fruity, decadent, and waxy with just a faint whiff of smoke; time has tamed the savage, medicinal smoke into something appropriate for a petting zoo; loads of vanilla, honey, and chocolate marzipan; Wine Gums and fruit flavoured Jelly Bellies.
Palate: soft, sweety, and tarry, with building buttery peat and bright fruit tones; chewy malt, briny seaweed wafers, and cigar smoke; more Wine Gums and assorted fruit flavoured Jelly Bellies; damp fabric bandaids, and touch of cordite; Dutch licorice and Twizzler Goodies.
Finish: sweet, fruity, and elegantly smoked with more buttery peat, licorice Goodies, and fruit flavoured Jelly Bellies.
Comment: this is excellent, and if it said 30 year old Laphroaig on the label it would likely have sold out instantly... but it doesn't say that on the label, it says "Distilled at An Islay Distillery" so you still have a chance to grab one... but not for long!
Producer Tasting Note
Nose: A wonderfully old-fashioned, Islay peat with a hint of the medicinal mixed with ripe red fruit . The classic, rich coastal feel builds with beach bonfire smoke and hints of the tropical.
Palate: Dense, earthy smoke gives way to dried mango and mint leaves while the texture envelopes the palate. The classic note of bandages are there but balanced against a rich sweetness with hints of papaya.
Finish: Beautiful spice comes through in the finish with toasted oak and more of the medicinal smoke carrying a gentle caramel sweetness.

Looking for a great value 30 year old single malt? Look no further! This is 30-year-old Gordon & MacPhail sherry cask matured Speyside whisky. They could name the distillery it's from, but then they would have to double the price... We have some ideas though, and if you ask nicely maybe we'll whisper it in your ear!
