In the Beaumartin family, having a chateau is not a choice, it is written in the DNA. Third generation owner Xavier Beaumartin first participated in the revival of Chateau Laroque in Saint-Emilion and in parallel in 2006, he took over Hannetot, a small property in Pessac-Léognan. The 4-hectare estate inspires Xavier Beaumartin to get off the beaten tracks. He replanted the entire vineyard in 2008 with the 3 emblematic grape varieties on the 3 different terroirs, clay, gravel and limestone. The vineyards are situated next to Chateau Olivier and Chateau Brown, so the chateau is in good company.

To celebrate the 2020 vintage, Goulée by Cos d’Estournel has been renamed G d’Estournel. In the 2020 vintage, the Merlot from the vineyard in the northern part of Médoc turned out as exceptional as it did at the flagship property of Cos d’Estournel. It saw more extreme weather conditions and less rain than Saint-Estèphe, but the vines being aged 35 years old on average, they were able to compensate thanks to their roots, which forever dig deeper from one year to the next, and the fresh air brought minerality from the nearby Gironde Estuary and ocean. The resulting wine displays a unique profile: the balance and aromatics of a fresh vintage are accompanied by an acidity and a quality of tannins usually observed in warmer vintages. G d’Estournel 2020, carried by the richness of the Merlot, is essentially delectable, and marked by notes reminiscent of salty sea breezes and a black pepper touch that lend it great energy.
