This is the third batch of Teaninich to be bottled by That Boutique-y Whisky Company. It was matured for 10 years before being bottled at 49.2% ABV.
You can find 500ml bottles of it here
From The Producer
"Built in 1817, Teaninich is a Highland single malt distillery. It’s quite unique-y really, instead of a mash tun, it uses a filter press to extract the sweet sugars from the malt. There is much mystery surrounding the distillery, so we did as all Boutique-y’s do and went to town on the label - see below.
The Label
Based on a true love story from many years ago about Captain Hugh Munro (founder of this distillery). He was shot in the head behind his eyes but, he survived! Unsurprisingly, he lost his eyesight as a result. His sweetheart was forbidden from marrying him due to his condition, so she married someone else. Despite their differing paths, she continued to love him and as her dying wish, visited the church to see him one last time."
50ml mlEvan’s Tasting Note
Nose: Floral and grassy – like you are in a meadow in the spring - just after a light rain. Chamomile tea, angel food cake, cantaloupe slices, grapefruit peels, polished oak, and a touch of chalk dust and Crayola crayons.
Palate: Creamy, chalky and slightly waxy on the tongue in a delightful manner with notes of vanilla pod, white chocolate, ripe pears, honeydew melon, a touch of pomelo citrus, chamomile tea again, candied ginger and a hint of salt.
Finish: Light and creamy and nearly ethereal with the occasional burst of flavour to remind you of how good it tastes.
Comment: This is light done right, and is spot on what I was hoping: Exhibit A on how balanced and delicious a delicate whisky can be. Nothing is overpowering here, but it has poise and finesse that many more full-flavoured whiskies often lack. I am buying myself a larger bottle of this right now.

That Boutique-y Whisky Company (TBWC) is part of the Atom Group, which also owns the UK retailer Master of Malt and a number of other subsidiaries. They are a dynamic and innovative firm, who by example invented the Whisky Advent Calendar concept. Established in 2012, TBWC is famous for its playful and colourful labels, which often feature prominent whisky industry figures, tell a story, and or elude to an inside joke. The labels are typically laced with hidden elements and "Easter Eggs."
TBWC bottles whiskies from around the world, though the bulk of their offerings are of Scottish origin. Most of their offerings are small-batch releases, Blended Malts, and Blends. Their "Head of Whisky" is Canadian Sam Simmons.
We are big fans of not only their whimsical labels but also the consistently high standard of liquid they bottle.
