No Pinot and no Chardonnay?!?! Believe it or not: Petit Meslier is the name of the grape in this Champagne from Laherte. This Extra-Brut Champagne comes from young vines of this nearly forgotten grape recently planted in 2014 and 2018. The grapes were picked at full maturity and this multi-vintage bubbly was aged on the lees for 6 months.
Petit Meslier is just being rediscovered as an important grape in the Champagne region, prized for its ability to keep acidity even in hotter growing seasons. It is seen in small amounts blended into some Champagne, but seeing a 100% Petit Meslier bottling like this one is rare indeed!

Champagne Laherte was founded by Jean-Baptiste Laherte, who set up the family estate in 1889, planting most of the vines in the village of Chavot. The estate today comprises 11 hectares in three distinct areas of the champagne region: Coteaux Sud d’Epernay, Côte des Blancs and Vallée de la Marne.

One of the world's greatest wines! Dom Perignon was the 17th century Benedictine monk who has gone down in history as the person who "invented" Champagne. He sold the brand name to Moet & Chandon, which used it as the name for its prestige cuvée, which was first released in 1937. Incredibly smooth, creamy fruit with perfect balance that with age takes on toasty aromas and a finesse equaled by very few of the other Grandes Marques. A blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes.

2010 Vintage. A grower-producer in the heart of Chigny-les-Rose, Giles Dumangin has champagne coursing through his veins. Dating back to the 1650s, the Dumangins have always worked with the vines of Champagne, but it wasn't until 1890 when Hippolyte Dumangin created Champagne Dumangin in the 1er Cru vineyards of Chigny-les-Roses. Five generations later, Champagne Dumangin is producing an array of champagnes, from their classic, feminine style to their newer, high-end cuvees. Their Vintage Cuvee is a blend of Chardonnay (54%) and Pinot Noir (46%), and with 9 years en tirage (on the yeast lees), the wine shows beautiful and elegant complexity. Expect notes of brioche, grilled almonds, blossom and lemon drops, with a bright acidity that extends the finish. Pair with fresh seafood, or simply enjoy as an aperitif. 2010 was a challenging vintage for the region, but Dumangin did some aggressive sorting and managed to deliver a lovely vintage wine.

Vilmart is a grower producer of the highest order. All grapes are picked by hand picked and left intact intact until they reach the traditional pressing shed. Settling is achieved by gravity to preserve quality; the juices are then delicately transferred to oak barrels and foudres (large oak casks), where primary alcoholic fermentation begins.
At Vilmart the vinification of all cuvées takes place in wood, which gives the wines their particular character, providing body, fruit, roundness and subtlety. Another characteristic of Vilmart champagnes is the absence of malolactic fermentation. This preserves freshness, tautness and subtlety, as well as the pronounced identity of the aromas.The wine is a blend of 70% Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and spends ten months in barrel prior to bottling. There is a fine balance between the primary fruit aromas, secondary (biscuit, bread, butter) and tertiary (minerals and spices) components.

This wine is made from a unique plot in the middle of their vineyards with 40+ year old vines. "This wine is opulence personified. Intense laser-beams of acidity balance out the caramel notes here and the finish goes on and on for millennia. This wine pairs well with long-lived wedding anniversaries and doctoral dissertation completions, or it will make whatever random moment you decide to open one as special as either of those rare events. Extremely limited and unicorn-like."
"Jacques Lassaigne is a 4.7-hectare family vineyard located in Montgueux. The vineyards boast prime southeastern exposure and consist entirely of Chardonnay. The Montgueux vineyard sites were originally held for the Montrachet of Champagne and are located near the gates of Troyes—the former capital of Champagne. This area is technically part of the Aube department, but is much further north than what people typically think of as the Aube, in the Cote des bars which features wines often primarily made from Pinot Meunier. The terroir in Montgueux is nearly identical to the growing sites found further north in le Mesnil, as they share the same limestone vein —this is exceptional terroir for making great champagne. An intense backbone of acidity is often present in these wines, but since it is located further south than the storied Cotes des blancs, ripening is not as much of an issue. The non-vintage Blanc de Blancs is a blend of nine different vineyard sites & two successive vintages."
