Boutique-y Bruichladdich Bt. 20 27 Year

$429.99

Batch 20 of the Boutique-y Bruichladdich is a 27 year old, bottled at 43.4%. We almost never see twenty-something Bruichladdichs anymore, even from the distillery. And when we do they are usually twice the price of this one.

Producer Description: "Our twentieth batch from the Bruichladdich distillery is a 27 Year Old, a release of just 159 bottles at 43.4% abv."

About the Label (Larger Label Under Tasting Note)

"On the label, we see a Laddie who’s made it to the most prestigious seat someone could sit in during the 1970s - behind the conveyor belt of The Generation Game. The Laddie has the chance to win all manner of wonderful prizes, and they all seem to follow the theme of Bruichladdich releases. Listing Bruichladdich’s releases is a gargantuan task. We’ve probably missed a few too! How many can you find?"

Andrew's Tasting Note

Nose: soft, delicate and fruity; salt water taffy, Starburst fruit candies and honeycomb;  bright citrus, Jelly Bellies and a touch of subtle cheesy funk (Creme de Bourgogne?).

Palate: still light, soft, and faintly cheesy; more salt water taffy, Starburts and Jelly Bellies; honeycomb and beeswax with velvety toasted oak and malted milk; heading in the tropical direction; faint leather and notes suggestive of sherry with patience.

Finish: still light, fruity and waxy; medium in length but complex.

Comment: this is a dangerously drinkable refill cask matured Laddie, left to develop slowly in the cask for more than a quarter of a century; I'm a big fan of this oxidative style of whisky; in this case, we've ended up with a slightly cheesy and very fruity malt that you could drink all night long!

Producer Tasting Note

Nose: Light and sweet aroma with a drizzle of honey.

Palate: Milk chocolate, fizzy sour cherry and a hint of chilli spice.

Finish: Medium, a deliciously fruity and pleasant sweetness.

That Boutique-y Whisky Company (TBWC) is part of the Atom Group, which also owns the UK retailer Master of Malt and a number of other subsidiaries. They are a dynamic and innovative firm, who by example invented the Whisky Advent Calendar concept. Established in 2012, TBWC is famous for its playful and colourful labels, which often feature prominent whisky industry figures, tell a story, and or elude to an inside joke. The labels are typically laced with hidden elements and "Easter Eggs."

TBWC bottles whiskies from around the world, though the bulk of their offerings are of Scottish origin. Most of their offerings are small-batch releases, Blended Malts, and Blends. Their "Head of Whisky" is Canadian Sam Simmons.

We are big fans of not only their whimsical labels but also the consistently high standard of liquid they bottle.
