Haut-Bailly’s reputation as one of the great wines of Bordeaux dates from the 19th century, and the word “outstanding” most often associated with the château reflects its superb quality. The late Robert G. Wilmers purchased the chateau in 1998, and it is now owned by his son Chris. He and the current manager, Véronique Sanders, have very demanding standards that entail using the best of traditional and modern methods, with full respect for the environment. A quarter of the vines at Haut-Bailly are a hundred years old, and the estate has a unique terroir that accounts for wines of amazing regularity. These great wines have an inimitable style, finesse, and elegance, whatever the vintage. This is the second wine of the chateau, selling for less than half the price of the flagship bottling but coming very close in style and structure.

The 2022 Château d'Issan is a big hit, especially since it was awarded James Suckling's Wine of the Year for 2025 (98 points). This third-growth Margaux is described as a powerful, elegant, and exceptionally balanced vintage featuring notes of blackcurrant, violets, and cedar. It is widely considered a benchmark, potentially the best wine ever produced at the estate, offering high quality for its price.

The 2022 Beychevelle has a succinct bouquet with wonderful precision and focus, pure black fruit, black olive compote and subtle tobacco scents. It unfurls with aeration yet doesn't want to give too much away. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins. There is a newfound sense of clarity that lifts this 2022 above recent vintages. This is unequivocally one of the most elegant Beychevelles on the finish, and it lingers temptingly in the mouth. It’s a benchmark wine for this Saint-Julien.
