Domaine du Pegau dates back 1670 ,the ascendants of what was known then as Domaine Feraud & fils, a 22 hectares estate. After wine studies followed by a wine and spirits business school, in 1987, Laurence, the daughter of Paul & Odette Feraud, returned to settle in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. She convinces her parents to create an independent family estate of 5ha and Domaine du Pegau is born. It was not until 1992 , following presentations of wines at various competitions and critics, that Châteauneuf-du-Pape Domaine du Pegau red was ranked in the top 3 wines . That year, Laurence acquires different export markets and sells 100% of the harvest of the 1990 vintage. .Little by little, investments in the land were rewarded and since then Domaine du Pegau has continued to expand its operations and its distribution networks around the world. The doamine is now rearded as one of the top CNDP's, year in and year out.

The Le Vieux Donjon Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2018 is a fantastic expression of the appelation. Notes of juniper, bay leaf, red and black currants all with elements of cherry, plum and iron. This wine is bold, with a fresh acidity and beautifully intergrated, dusty tannins. This is a wine that deserves to be served with something just as bold, like beef stew, venison or lamb shanks. It's approachable now, but can certainly sit in the cellar for another 10 years.

Fruit from 60-plus-year-old vines contributes to the concentration and intensity of this wine. Hints of bramble fruit and a juicy core provide a generosity and richness that can be attributed to the vintage and sheer class of the fruit. While up to 13 different grape varietals can be blended together in making Chateauneuf du Pape red wine, the Domaine Raymond Usseglio CNDP Cuvee Imperiale is composed almost entirely of very old vine Grenache (90-plus percent in most vintages). The grapes for this tremendous and age-worthy red are harvested from estate vines in the Chateauneuf du Papes holdings of the Domaine - most of which are more than a century old and were originally planted in 1902.

"La Cuvée Imperiale is from our oldest vines, most of them 100 years old (planted in 1901-1902.) Extremely low yields (16-18 h/h) guarantee a wine that is dense and profound. The ancient Grenache vines bring to this cuvee their finesse and elegance. Will age for dozens of years. To be carafed during the first years. Because it is bottled without any filtration, some sediment – natural and beneficial to the aging process – is possible."

Stephane Usseglio produces wines under his own label and is now in charge of winemaking at his family's domaine, Raymond Usseglio & Fils. It's a blend of 70% old vine Grenache from 80-year-old plus vines, along with some old vine Syrah and Cinsault. Lirac is situated opposite Chateauneuf-du-Pape on the opposite side of the Rhone River (hence the name, which translates to "the other shore"). The best examples of Lirac, like this one, can give Chateauneuf a run for considerably less money.
