It only makes sense that Glenlivet launched Caribbean Reserve. The only surprising thing is that it took as long as it did. And also that more brands aren't trying to integrate some of the funky tropical tones of rum casks into their whisky. It can be a heck of a fun experiment, and almost always works.
Fellow Speysiders Balvenie sort of pioneered the concept of taking tongues on a tropical trip(!) well over a decade ago. And while we're not saying they were the first to do it, they definitely took rummifying (Yeah, we just made up that word) to another level. It was only in 2020 that Glenlivet launched their own rum cask finished malt to compete. Caribbean Reserve, as this one was christened, is also positioned at a much sexier price point.
