Andrew's Tasting Note
Nose: creme caramel, Scottish tablet, corn syrup and soft ripe fruits: melons, mangos and papaya; rice pudding and bread and butter pudding; an explosion of honey and toasted oak with a hint of smoke?
Palate: this is thick, sweet and fruity with delicate clean smoke and soft toasty oak; Russian caramel, Scottish tablet and corn syrup with loads of ripe fruit: pineapple, mango, papaya and melons; very nutty with a touch of French roast coffee beans, toasted oak and delicate warming spices.
Finish: long, coating and elegant with decadence, bags of fruit and toasted oak.
Comment: wow, this is pleasantly unusual; how is it still so fresh after 31 years in first fill ex-Bourbon; just a faint trace of bitter oak, but bags of fruit and decadence.
Producer Tasting Note
Nose: Big waves of charred oak and coffee, with lighter hints of orange oil and heather honey.
Palate: Chocolatey at first. Walnut, almond and Brazil nut, all with a hint of smokiness.
Finish: Dried cedar, slightly oily, sultana, toffee.
