The 2003 vintage: Winter preceding the 2003 harvest was very wet. Flowering took place in bright warm weather at the end of May in some of the best conditions seen for several years. The first two weeks of August provided the intense summer heat which often precedes a great Port vintage. The picking season in September was warm and dry and the yields were even across all grape varieties, ensuring balance and complexity in the wines.
The 2003 Vintage Port is an absolute blockbuster, which according to Robert Parker, ‘will proudly stand shoulder to shoulder with the finest ever crafted by Taylor Fladgate.’
750ml mlTasting notes: Inky purple black with narrow magenta rim. Classic Taylor nose, with exotic scents of violets and spice set against an impenetrable background of intense dark berry fruit. The 2003 Vintage Port shows a stylish and racy palate, displaying a tight fabric of sinewy tannins and packed with concentrated grapey flavours which intensify through the seemingly endless finish. Like many other great Taylor vintage, this wine is an archetype of restrained power, its elegance and breeding concealing massive inner strength and stamina.

Located outside of Mád— the “Capital of Sweet Wines”— the vineyards of Tokaj Classic comprise 8 hectares in two of the very first classified Grand Cru vineyards of the world, Királyand Betsek. The winery is managed by two classical musicians, and unlike wineries in other regions, creates wine employing a completely unique and highly complex methodology practiced only in Tokaj. Winemaker, Imre Galambosi, was born into a family fully immersed in the Tokaji wine world, where they have been producing wines in the region for 1000 years. This production uses wild yeast for fermentation, fermenting wines slowly in stainless steel. This is their 6 puttonyos Tokaji (150gL), which has won six consecutive Gold Medals at the International Wine and Spirits Competition (UK). It has an elegant complexity and is a beautiful expression of their grand cru terroir.

Fine quality Aszú berries with good flavour, balance and perfect botrytis were macerated in fermenting must for two days. After pressing and finishing fermentation, the wines were filled into 300 and 500-litre Hungarian oak casks in our extensive, deep, underground cellars to mature for over two years. The final blends were carefully crafted in the spring of 2020.
