Bacardi is one of the world's best-selling brands of rum, moving more than 200 million bottles per year. The company was founded in Cuba in 1830 and thrived there until it was expropriated by Castro's regime. In response, the patriach of the family-owned business bought a surplus B26 bomber with the intention of bombing a Cuban oil field. The plot was foiled when a photo of the plane made the New York Times. Bacardi now operates out of Puerto Rico. The rum is distilled from fermented molasses and aged for at least one year before bottling.
