This wine is made from Pinot Gris from two sites in the Okanagan. 75% comes from Anne Sperling’s Biodynamic vineyard in Kelowna, while the other 25% comes from Crocket, an organic vineyard in the Similkameen Valley. The grapes are fermented on their skins in a combination of neutral oak barrels and stainless-steel tanks for four-nine days. After being pressed off, the wine finishes fermentation and malolactic conversion in tank and barrel before being bottled, unfined and unfiltered. The label art is done by Claire Milbrath.

"The destemmed grapes are placed in oak barrels for eight days where the fermentation takes place in contact with the skins of the grapes. There is no temperature control or added yeasts. The ageing is done in oak barrels after the alcoholic and malolactic fermentations for about 18 months, during which they may make on or two transfers if needed... Coppery color, the nose is complex and persistent with hints of red fruits like cherry in particular. The mouth is full, elegant and with a great minerality. Hints of berries can be perceived at the aftertaste."

This wine is a blend of Gewurztraminer (44%), Riesling (30%) and Chardonnay (26%). The nose is vibrant with the aromas of rose petals, mandarin, pineapple and spice. It has flavours of pear, mango and pink grapefruit, concluding with a long refreshing finish. This would be a great wine to pair with grilled pork chops with peach chutney, prawn pad thai.

Dating back to 1925, Sperling Vineyards has progressed from producing table grapes to being one of the forefront runners of the Biodynamic & Organic wine scene in British Columbia. They only just gained their full Organic certification in 2017, but yet, they have harvested in sustainable methods since Ann Sperling took over in the late 1990's. Part of their Vision series, this Amber Pinot Gris is as raw as it gets. WIth no fining or filtration, the wine looks murky in the bottle but holds a beauty unknown to most. There is nothing added into or taken away from the wine, making it as transparent for the customer as it can be, you know exactly what is in this wine. Definitely a funky style of wine, showing more of an umami expression of Pinot Gris. With that, it is an adventure of a wine and certainly pairs well with food.
