El Enemigo is a winery co-owned by Adrianna Catena and Alejandro Vigil, both of Catena Zapata fame. The winemaker calls 2018 "El Año Mendocino", the Mendoza Year. After a small cool vintage in 2017, which we call “El Año Bordelés” (the Bordeaux Year) and a small, very cool and rainy year in 2016 “El Año Bourguignon” (the Burgundian year), they finally got a vintage that is classically Mendozan: dry, cool, sunny and with moderate yields in every region from the lowest to the highest altitudes.
750 mlFrom a 150-year-old vineyard, this Bonarda shows a deep violet colour with bluish reflections. The nose is intense and complex. Intense aromas of ripe black fruit, blackberries, raspberries, black cherries, chocolate and liquor, with some spicy notes toward the finish. The taste has a sweet impact with silky tannins and aromas of ripe black and red fruits with notes of licorice and vanilla. Bonarda is known as Charbono in Italy.

Hector and Pablo Durigutti were born in Mendoza, the cradle of Argentinian wine and were raised together. Their childhood and their home were always connected to a sensorial world, with aromas, ingredients and flavours that, over time, motivated them to choose the path to become enologists. As adults, they would find these familiar memories and similar passions. In 2002 they dedicated their efforts to the creation of a small family winey. Today the brothers have evolved to form a new generation of winemakers, leading an evolutionary change in Argentina’s viticulture. Also known as Charbono, Corbeau or Douce Noire, the grape was historically grown in the Savoie region in the French Alps. DNA analysis has proven that the Argentina Bonarda is in fact not related to the Italian grape Bonarda di Chieri and Bonarda del Monferrato from Piedmont. The grape produces a light, fruity wine that is sometimes served chilled. The Durigutti brothers, Hector and Pablo, have made an exceptional example of this little-known variety.

Produced from 100% Bonarda, the grapes for this wine are sourced in the Fiambalá, Catamarca, an elevated agricultural valley, that were planted in a pergola in 1938. On the nose, it is intense and has aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, and cherries with slightly spiced notes. On the palate, it has a delightful punch of tannins that blends wonderfully with the fruit. Perfect for a Tuesday night, pizza, hamburgers, medium cheeses, cheddar, or just a simple night in.
