Now's the time, folks. The world's watching Glenallachie. When Billy Walker sold off BenRiach, GlenDronach and Glenglassaugh we all thought the big guy was done. Y'know...bag of cash in hand, ride off into the sunset, live happily ever after.
But why do that when you've got the Midas touch and the whisky legions are itching to scoop up the fruits of your labours?
So, in 2017, when Billy bought the young (by Scottish distillery standards) Glenallachie distillery, an awful lot of people sat up and took notice. Not least, your good mates at KWM. Since then we've seen the launch of a new core range and some rather spectacular single casks meant to commemorate the distillery's 50th anniversary.
But if you really want a peek behind the curtain - an opportunity to see what the flowed from the stills before Billy got himself tucked in - then it's well worth pursuing the indie bottlings, and this Signatory 1996 is a pretty incredible place to start. I can't imagine we'll see these kind of vintages at these sorts of prices for much longer.
A very robust 54.8% abv, naturally coloured and not chill filtered. Beauty.
