Kavalan Solist Manzanilla Blow Out

The first Kavalan cask bottled for Canada, is a Solist Sherry nicknamed "Oh ! So Sherried for Canada." by the distillery and importer Fountana Beverage Co. Cask No: S100205009A, bottled on October 21 2016; no fill date. 550 bottles, 58.6%.

Andrew's Tasting Note

Nose: candied nuts, Demerara and brown sugars, black licorice Twizzlers, sweet sticky sherry and dense maple syrup; dark bakers chocolate, Christmas cake and everything sherry bomb... new leather and damp fruit tobacco too.

Palate: big, rich coating and very fruity; loads of spices, sugars (more Demerara and Brown), plus big thick syrupy notes; a touch of burnt bacon, wrapped around dates filled with blue cheese; firm new leather with more damp tobacco (cigar); the dark bakers chocolate is complimented by candied nuts, cinnamon hearts, hot ginger and candied nuts.

Finish: doesn't disappoint, but it is rich, long and smooth, with the leather, dark fruits and spices lasting longest. 

Comment: this is a big sherry bomb, not over the top, but a monster; Kavalan's light tropical tones are hiding beneath a firm sherry influence; lovers of the Solist Sherry will not be disappointed by this Canadian cask!
