The earliest records mentioning Quinta do Crasto and its wine production date back to 1615. It later received Feitoria status (the highest vineyard classification of the time), together with the other noteworthy estates of the Douro Valley. Between 1758 and 1761, the Marquis of Pombal ordered the installation of 335 granite markers – each standing two metres high and 30 x 20 centimetres – to delineate the first ever Demarcated Region in the world. One of these stone pillars, or “marcos pombalinos” in Portuguese, dates back to 1758 and can still be seen today at the Quinta do Crasto nearby the century-old farm house. In the 1940s, all of these markers were inventoried and declared property of national interest. Quinta do Crasto today has a full range of products, from white and red Douro wines, to premium Port wines and Extra Virgin Olive oils. In recent years, all of the Quinta do Crasto range has received great acclaim, both from the general public as well as specialised critics.
750 mlThis wine takes its name from the location of the vineyard from which the grapes come: Douro Superior (Upper Douro). The grapes used to make this wine come from Quinta da Cabreira where they have 114 hectares of recently planted vines. It's a blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinot Roriz, and Susao.
Crasto Superior is fresh and balanced on the nose. Fresh on the palate, great body and ripe firm tannins. Very complex notes of dark berried fruits, gum cistus and cocoa lingering towards the elegant finish. Excellent length.

While the Douro is particularly renowned for its Ports, of course, it is also home to many fantastic table wine producers, such as Rui Roboredo Madeira, the maker of this red blend. 35% Touriga Nacional, 35% Jaen, and 30% Sousão. This wine spends 8 months in 300 litre French oak barrels before being bottled.

"Quinta da Pedra Escrita estate is located in Freixo de Numão - Douro Superior, with an average altitude of 575 meters. The windy and dry soils of the Estate are predominantly of granite, sandy and very poor in nutrients. Here I grew my first vineyards, always believing that the granite soils give us wines with highly complex aromas and great longevity, like in the old times."
