Lovely to see an older vintage! 93 points from Decanter World Wine Awards for the 2005 vintage. The review: "Intense herby and earthy nose. Bone dry quality, which is quite exceptional for an Amarone. Fairly mature but still powerful, with juicy plum character and dried grape tannins. Great ageing potential with all the right elements in balance." And Robert Parker's Wine Advocate has something to say about it, too: "Valentina Cubi and her husband Giancarlo Vason make a dynamic winemaking duo and have pursued their dream of making fine wines since the late 1960s. Their institutional knowledge of Valpolicella’s best single vineyards and microclimates is hard to beat. They represent a steady and composed “wiser generation” in this tightly knit winemaking community. Yet, despite all this, Valentina Cubi is an exciting, under-the-radar proposition that gets “discovered” by some stray wine writer with frequent recurrence. In my view, they deserve more credit. Along with other important names in Valpolicella, Valentina Cubi is a protagonist in the stylistic revolution that defines modern Amarone. Organic farming started in 2010," according to Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.

A must for collectors and fine wine lovers! Quintarelli produces its Amarone only in exceptional vintages, and in doing so, crafts the benchmark for all Amarone. Giuseppe Quintarelli passed away in 2012, and the estate now rests in the capable hands of his wife and children. "The 2007 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico was bottled seven months before I tasted it. Grapes undergo a four-month appassimento for extra concentration and intensity. Despite this heavy-handed winemaking technique (in which the clusters lose up to 30% of their water mass in the air-drying process), this is a surprisingly delicate and nuanced wine. The ageing process has definitely broken down and assimilated any of the hard edges that come from dried grapes. In its wake, the wine is polished and tight with a long, silky texture."
