Charles is the grandson of Gérald Bruley des Varannes, the man from whom Bernard's father André acquired his first vineyards, thereby bringing the story of the Domaine full circle. An avid practitioner of viticulture and oenology, Charles joined Bernard as an associate in 2019. Two years into his tenure, Charles has emphasized organic and biodynamic practices. Charles has continued, as Bernard before him, to capture the unique Vouvray mineral tones, along with the wonderfully balanced expression of fruit of the Chenin Blanc grape, in his wines.
The grapes come from a tiny parcel in the Loire Valley called Petit Clos, which boasts four-decade-old (and more) vines of Chenin Blanc. The clay-limestone soils help produce a dry, rich and powerful white. Best served with goat cheese, chicken salad or rich fish like salmon or sea bream.

Racy nose revealing apple, a touch of quince, hay, menthol and an elegant mineral note. Fresh attack followed by a balanced palate which unfurls a generous array of lifted aromatics intermixing citrus, mineral and spice aromas. Feels light. Wonderful.
Domaine des Aubuisieres is owned by Bernard Fouquet who has 30 hectares of Chenin Blanc in some of the appellation’s very best sites.
After gaining experience in Alsace and Burgundy, Bernard Fouquet started his own winery in 1982 in the Vouvray district of the Loire Valley west of Tour. He is regarded in France and internationally as one of the top Vouvray producers. His ability to capture the mineral tones unique to Vouvray’s soil, with the marvellous balance of explosive fruit and acidity is quite remarkable. Bernard produces Vouvray in many styles from dry, demi-sec, to sweet and sparkling. All of the Aubuisieres white wines are age-worthy - particularly the sweet versions which can take years to develop and last a decade or more.

The Cuvee de Silex from Domaines des Aubuisieres is made from fifty year--old Chenin Blanc vines in the Loire Valley. Soils for 'Cuvée Silex' are exclusively flint stone (silex in French means flint), imparting a smoky, mineral essence to the wine. Look for a bouquet of pear, green apple, quince, and melon that develops notes of mineral and honey. The wine is ever so slightly off-dry, which lends it a juicy freshness. Expressive and exceptionally well balanced on the palate with lots of lemon and a trace of anise. Great with turkey, spicy Asian dishes and salmon.

A fantastic moelleux (the term for sweet chenin blanc from the Loire Valley), this dessert wine is vibrant, with notes of baked apple, honey and a touch of almond. Perfect to pair with pate, foie gras, cheese or fruit pies. It's sweet but far from cloying, and organic.
