This is the 2016 Private Collection release from Glenmorangie, in sharp packaging reminiscent of a candy striper! Milsean is Scots Gaelic for "sweet things" and is pronounced "meel-shawn", and is composed of single malt matured in ex-Bourbon casks before extra maturing in re-toasted wine casks. This is the 7th annual release! 

Andrew's Tasting Note

Nose: caramel corn, candy apple and cinnamon coated mini-doughnuts... is this a Stampede Midway inspired malt? no it is much classier than that... very candied and fruity, wine gums and Jelly Bellies with soft toasted oak, juicy barley sugars and treacle tarts.

Palate: the round malt hits first, followed by the smooth creamy oak and later the crisp spices; more caramel corn, soft leather, dried dark fruits and cooked dates; cinnamon, cardamom and ginger (but not so mini-doughnut like); both the Bourbon and Wine casks influences leave there mark, harmoniously; Jelly Bellies and Wine Gums begin to dominate from the third sip on.

Finish: creamy, toasty and malty with silky follow through; the candied fruits and spices mellow in a long finale!

Comment: did the whisky's candied notes inspire the packaging? the bottle and box immediately make one think of a candy-striper.. and this whisky is very candied; fans of the annual Private Collection releases will not be disappointed!

Staff Tasting Note (Evan and Hunter):

Nose: wine gums, , sultanas, butter tarts, sweet spices, ginger and cinnamon.

Palate: sweet, creamy, and mouth coating. Red and black Nibs, juicy dark cherries, shortbread, gingerbread cookies, salt water taffy, sponge toffee, nectarines and buttered raisin toast.

Finish: long, creamy, and sweet with spice and charred oak coming into prominence after a fashion.

Distiller's Tasting Note

Aroma: Perfumed, sweet and spicy with hints of sugar cane, ripe fruits, sherbet lemons and fudge

Taste: A sweet, luscious candy-like flavour followed by a mix of tart plummy fruit, candied orange peel, cherries, and angelica.

Finish: Long and spicy, but always with a sweetness in the background, with flavours of ginger, brown sugar, sweet tobacco and cake mix.
