The oldest Glendronach in Batch 13, and the oldest Glendronach ever bottled at 47 years. Matured in a Pedro Ximenez Sherry Hogshead and bottled at a cask strength of 45.9%. Of the 10 bottles KWM has received, we have but 2 left!
Our Mixed Emotions Aroung Glendronach Batch 13: Every 6-8 months for the last 8 years Glendronach has released a batch of vintage single casks. Each Batch consists of 8-9 single casks of a range of ages. To date KWM has been the only store in Canada to receive at least one case of each vintage from the various batches. When possible we've set aside bottles for a special tasting as well. We are on Batch 13, and that number may be a bit foreboding, as since it was launched earlier this year, Glendronach and its sister distilleries BenRiach and Glenglassaugh have been sold to Brown Forman. These three distilleries, especially Glendronach, have been a big part of our business over the last 10 years, and we are sorry to see them change hands. While we are happy for Billy Walker and his team, we fear that the news will not be good for fans of BenRiach, Glenglassaugh and Glendronach. Generally speaking, the large multinational drinks companies are not creative, progressive or good partners to work with. We are hopeful that it will be steady as she goes with the new owners and inevitably the new importers to Canada, but this may be the last Batch of Glendronach vintages to come to KWM, if not Canada! Oh, and we still love Glendronach, so we've saved a bottle of each for a special tasting in store on August 9.
Distiller's Tasting Note
Nose: Intense, full bodied aromas of dark treacle, sour plums and rich prune syrup combine with fragrant herbal notes and faint cigar smoke.
Palate: An impactful sherried character laden with dark prunes and molasses. A torrent of vibrant orange bitters and dark espresso holds intriguing hints of eucalyptus and pine needles.
