This single cask, was selected by and bottled exclusisvely for the Comapnions of the Quaich whisky club. The whisky comes from Gordon & MacPhail one of Scotland's oldest and most respected independent bottlers. Bottled at a cask strength of 56.8%, after 18 years in a Refill American Oak Hogshead there were but 195 bottles produced. After the Quaich club members had their go at it, there were just a couple dozen bottles left over for the General Public.
Andrew’s Tasting Note
Nose: lovely notes of fresh picked orange and dewy flowers on a summer’s morning; honey and a touch of marzipan with some subtle silky toasted oak; strawberries and goats milk white chocolate develop; as it settles down the fruits start to come out in droves: melons, mango, papaya and more.
Palate: still very honeyed, floral, toasty and coating with some tingling spices; there is really bright orange with some jammy fruits (strawberry and raspberry jams) and building spices; the floral tones are still there, and over time the classic dry Glenrothes Geranium note comes out; but the silky threads of white chocolate and marzipan keep it fresh, and the layers of fruit keep developing.
Finish: long coating and rich with waves of fruits, oaky and floral tones.
Comment: I am not a huge fan of Glenrothes, but find their best whiskies are often matured in a American oak which doesn’t overshadow the delicate spirit; I think this is a classic example of a big, rich Glenrothes, that has retained it’s delelicate floral tones.”
