What a great price! "Black Bottle is a blended Scotch Whisky bottled by Burn Stewart Distillers. The brand was introduced in 1879 and was first produced by Aberdeen tea blenders Charles, David and Gordon Graham. After many years of decline prompted by a distillery fire and subsequent business sale, Black Bottle was revitalised in 1990 with a new blend using Islay single malt whiskies," according to Wikipedia. "Black Bottle was indeed sold in a black bottle until 1914. Supplies of the black glass bottle came from Germany and had to be abandoned after the start of World War I. Since then, the non-vintage bottle has been dark green, but the 10-year-old and now discontinued 15-year-old bottles are coated with black plastic, giving the appearance of a truly black bottle."

Only 12 miles from Glasgow, and although a Highland by definition, these whiskies are known for a more Lowland style due to the use of unpeated malt. Also unique is the choice of sherry used for cask finishing. Instead of the more common olorosso wood, Glengoyne uses predominately palo cortado, resulting in more nutty flavors. This version has a light nose, and is creamy smooth with notes of vanilla.

Johnnie Walker Black Label is at least 12 years old and is light and smokey in style. This iconic blend traces its origins back to 1870 when it was called Old Special Highland Whisky, renamed Johnny Walker Black Label in 1909. The second from entry level expression can be sipped neat of mixed. While the Black Label is comprised of between 35 and 40 individual components, there are five distilleries that are considered its main building blocks. These cornerstones are Talisker, Caol Ila, Cragganmore and Glenkinchie for the malt portion and Cameronbridge for the grain whisky.
